You have to tell it to use the font, either inside the card template or by telling AnkiDroid to use that font as the default. The wiki page tells you how to do both under "Setting the font using CSS" and "Default font", respectively.

What version of AnkiDroid are you using? If it's AnkiDroid 2 (beta), The default font can be changed by going to Menu -> Preferences -> Display -> Default font. Keep in mind that this will change all unstyled fonts.

Hello everyone

I bought a Galaxy s5300 yesterday for reviewing Japanese. However I've also run into the font problem where the kanji aren't displayed properly. I have attempted to solve this using the wiki page but I have no clue how to do it.  I downloaded the shared JLPT 4 to 1 deck on ankidroid. I have also manually made ankidroid > fonts folder on the sd card and put the DroidSansJapanese.ttf in there. Then I put the card in my phone, but the font doesn't appear. How on earth can I change the fonts to proper Japanese in a downloaded shared deck? Please explain in detail because I don't know much about this.

Sorry for the poor English, but I would like to solve this.

Being a shared deck won't affect it. The use of custom fonts is a bit of a problem in AnkiDroid at the moment. I wrote a bit about it on Issue 1415. I suspect if you rename your MS Mincho font to "Mincho.ttf" it will work. Can you give that a try?

Make sure that you still have "font-family: Mincho" in your template.

Thanks for the reply.

I looked up which fonts this deck uses, and it's Arial and MS Mincho. Just to be sure, I copied all the .tff files that my computer has under the windows fonts and put them on my phone under AnkiDroid > fonts. Still nothing changes. I also tried to change the fonts of the deck to arial only, or verdana, but still nothing happens. I don't have any clue what to do. Could this be because it's a shared deck and I'm not the creator?

And I've tried using both 2.0 version and less, but nothing changes. I seriously don't have a clue what I'm doing wrong...

No problem. Happy to help.

I'll add a comment about this to the wiki since it comes up a lot.
