Is there going to be an official update coming soon through the
Android Market. I like the word done so far, but I can't use it
without sync.

Thanks for the hard work, guys.

Hi Throwaway,

I hope it is as soon as possible but before releasing the next version of AnkiDroid I think it is really important we solve an administrative issue that could set the future of the community on one way or another:
http://groups.google.com/group/anki-android/browse_thread/thread/3a5f47399bb84973

So, it is important that we think and decide carefully.

When we are ready to update, we will announce a period of 10 days in order to test the release candidate and then it will hit Android Market.

Unfortunately, although the basic functionality of synchronization is already done it will not be on the next version. The reason is that we still have to finish some error controls and test it intensively, in order to make it safe for the decks of everybody. I hope you understand that.

Thanks for your support!

Interesting page to link to. There's been no activity on it for a
month which would seem to indicate that the community at large is
happy with either option and that the decision is down to those
trusted people who currently make deployments like yourself. I for one
am. You've done a good job so far and both options seem workable.

it's a shame that the android market is not really open-source friendly. another android open source project i'm involved in (http://github.com/ruboto/ruboto-irb) is discussing similar things: i pushed the first version of the app to the market using my personal account but would prefer to have a shared project account. it seems to be a common need.

unfortunately it's impossible to move packages from one account to another, then the other problem is that the account registration fee is 25$, which is not too expensive but still annoying for free projects which don't aim to make money on the market.

android is a great platform to do open source development for (libraries, community etc) except for the android market.
