Hi there! This may not work - yet - I am not sure, did you test it? If it does not work (yet) then I can say it probably will soon.
We are working on a long-term project where Desktop and AnkiDroid are changing the way they share code. It used to be that AnkiDroid was written 100% in Python programming language, and AnkiDroid ported that code to Java. Now AnkiDesktop has been rewritten mostly in Rust (including the search function) and AnkiDroid is being altered to re-package that Rust code and use it directly.
So in the past Desktop might get new features (like `w:` searches...) and AnkiDroid may not get them if we had not ported. But now we will just get them directly.
This may take some time but I think with the 2.16 release we will
probably have the work done and you will be able to use this. In
the meantime the only way to do it would be to download the code
itself from github, compile it locally and turn on some
developer-only flags that we hide this work behind (for safety
reasons, just in case) then it may already work. I am not
recommending that, just saying if you were motivated you could do
it, and if you did we would love any feedback
-Mike
