I am not sure, but did you try to "Tools -> Maintenance -> Check Database" on Anki?

I am new to Anki for only one day. Using Anki 2.0 and AnkiWeb 2.0 and have tried to download some shared decks. Now I am trying to create my own deck from scratch.

I have removed the downloaded decks from my collection and there is only the default deck remaining here. However, as I have downloaded some other decks before, the card type have a number of previous setting for those downloaded decks. There are totally a few "basic" type together with some others types (such as cloze etc).

Now I want to remove those previous setting as it is confusing to have several type of the same name. There isn't a restore to default option and there is no delete option for the card type.

I have tried to create a new profile and delete the old profile. It is successful to have a fresh card type of only "basic" and "cloze". But when I syne it with the web, all previous settings are streamed back.

Could you suugest how to resolve this.

Thanks a lot,

I have tried this without success. Also, tried the full syne option hoping that the local deck will be uploaded to ankiweb. But still it is not successful.

Other idea.

One way you can do this is by starting to add a new note.
Then try to select a new note type.
Next to the list you are given, there is an option to delete note types.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I finally am able to get rid of the non-using card type now.

One further issue is that if I have created some cards in certain card type and other cards under different card types name. All of them are of the same nature, for example, the front card is name a "term or word" and the back card is the "meaning of the word" but while I am creating the cards I just gave them some different card types name.  Is it possible to consolidate all of them into one single card type and clean out redundant card type name.

As an illustration:

Now I have,

Card number 1 to 10, under card type named "ABC"
Card number 11 to 20, under card type named "DEF"
Card number 21 to 30, under card type named "GHI"
Card number 31 to 40, under card type named "XYZ"

and I want consolidate them into

Card number 1 to 30, all under card type named "ABC"
Card number 31 to 40, remain under card type named "XYZ" (as the template design is different from that of "ABC"

will there be an option to alter the card type of certain cards to get the above result?

I find there is option to rename a card type name and i have tried to rename card type "DEF' and GHI" into "ABC" but it ends up with 3 card type name as "ABC" in 3 entries in the "choose card type" dialogue box.

Hello,

Glad deleting the note types worked.

Unfortunately, I do not believe there is way to merge the note types as you described.
You might be able to do this by exporting your cards as a text file and then re-importing them.
When you re-import them (maybe using a different profile to test), you can pick which note type
to use. I tested this and it seem to work okay. However, you will lose all your current reviews
data, meaning the cards will be considered to be new.

Hi Damein,

Regarding the purpose to merge cards with different types into one single type, for your suggestion to change type, I cannot find the option for editing cards/note that is created already.

It seems that "change type" is only available to new note but not for current note. Option to select type seems only appear in the add dialogue box.

In the browser, I cannot locate the "change type" option

Please advise if I have to make some changes in the preference to attain this.

Thanks a lot,
