I want to memorise a long poem. I use one card per verse. Can I make them always display in strict order?

that's not what SRS is suppose to do... but you can take advantage of Anki deck design flaw. But putting one card in each deck, and name the deck alphabetically, put all the deck under a parent deck, then you can review them in order.

What you're suppose to do though is memorise the order of the verses, not review the verses in order. Eg, assign a keyword to each to each verse, then use mnemonic techniques to memorise these keywords in a chain. Do the same thing with each verse, you will end up like a tree diagram, you'll remember the order and the content.

You need to use a filtered deck for something like this. Sort it by order added and turn off rescheduling. See the docs.

Yeah, filter deck... shows all cards in the deck and then turn off rescheduling, removing every single elements of spaced repetition. Might as well go use paper flashcards like a plebeian.

That's like driving a Ferrari to pick up a pick a fat chick, defeats the whole purpose of the tool.
