I have IDT High Definition Audio Codec installed on my E6420 Dell. When I had Win 7 installed, I was able to direct sound to my speakers. I have the IDT speaker/headphone combination selected as default.

"3. Update IDT High Definition Audio CODECA number of systems may encounter issues with their IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. This can be fixed with a manual driver update which allows us to choose the sound driver we wish to use.

Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager. Expand the Sound, video games and controllers section. If you spot IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, right-click and select Update Driver Software. In the next panel, select Browse my computer for driver software, followed by Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. This allows us to select from any drivers pre-installed on our system."

I had the same issue on an older Lenovo Z710 Ideapad after a full reset of Windows. The "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" had a yellow sign, and I could not get any sound. I found Audio device missing or cannot find audio device - ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, ThinkStation to fix it. Strangely, there were two rather confusing drivers offered when I had followed the steps almost to the end:

While the accepted solution of 2016 asks you to update with the choice "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" at this point, surprisingly, this has turned out wrong in my case. Against any intuition, you must not choose the driver with the same name like the device! Instead, you need to strictly follow the Lenovo guide and really install the "High Definition audio controller". You must ignore the warning message that it is recommended not to install this device driver since it cannot be assured that it is compatible with the hardware.

A side-remark: When I first installed "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" at this point (thinking that the Lenovo guide was outdated), I got a different Audio device name (something like Audio ... Bus or so) and I had to uninstall it using the device manager, then right-click the no-sound error tray icon, and then click on repair, so that I got the former "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" device name back. And then I installed the "High Definition audio controller" and it worked.

I installed Windows 8.1 on my Latitude E6420 and I can get the sound to work. I installed the drivers available for Windows 8 but it doesn't play any sound. The only thing that works is streaming through a browser (for exemple youtube). When I test the "Speakers / Headphones" device it gives me a "Failed to play test sound." but the "Communications headphones" device is working with no problems.

Hello. See here for Dell's list of models that work with 8 and 8.1. Dell does not recommend installing 8.1 on the Latitude E6420 model. Dell does say 8 is okay but does not supply an IDT audio driver even for 8. I do not think there will be any Dell supplied IDT audio driver for 8.1 since it does not recommend installing it. That means you have to use the native audio driver that comes with Windows. The native driver is generic and usually you can get audio to work when using it but not all functions work correctly. All I can suggest is to find the generic audio driver in Device Manager (I don't know how it is listed there) and try to "update" it by allowing Windows to search for an update on the internet.

Maybe someone on our Windows 8 board can suggest an IDT audio driver you can try to use. If you post there tell them that you already posted on the Laptop Audio board so they will not move your post back here.

Try installing the Windows 7 IDT audio driver into your laptop, using compatibility mode, and see if that is any help. If that driver will n ot not work or does not help, ask our expert on drivers for unsupported systems, Philip Yip (forum name natakuc4) for help in this thread.

Also how was Windows 8.1 installed? If it wasn't a clean install but an upgrade via the Microsoft Store (it may be this that is causing the issues opposed to the audio driver). Perform a clean install by following my Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean install of Windows 8.1:

One last thing to try with that driver is installation via the device manager. Dell may have locked the installer to only install on a subset of systems, its really annoying when they do that but quite often if it contains the driver, it can be installed via the Device Manager.

If you have this problem, your PC is equipped with 2 graphics cards.
An INTEL which is a low-power card in electrical energy and which is used when your PC is on battery or in office mode.
The other, more powerfull (Nvidia or other brand) is used for the best video quality, transfer via an HDMI port, ect.
Windows switch from one to the other depending on your setting in Windows Power Options. The INTEL basic graphics card is in perfect harmony with your computer processor and takes up its transfer energy and resources on the processor while also consuming RAM memory.
The secondary card (Nvidia or other brand) is more autonomous, with its own processor and integrated RAM memory. It is however much more greedy in electrical energy.

To temporarily resolve this "error in graphics drivers occurred" problem generated by KASPERSKY, and while waiting for KASPERSKY to resolve its own, you will only use one graphics card on your PC.
To do this, you go to the Windows device manager (peripheric manager) , then go to "Graphics Cards". Right click on the video card you wish to deactivate, then click on "deactivate".
- If you work more on office automation and internet, if you often use your PC on battery, deactivate the most powerful (Nvidia or other brand).
- If you use the battery little, and you rather take photos, video and you use the HDMI transfer, deactivate the INTEL card.
When KASPERKY LAB will have solved its oversight problem in the switch and sharing of video cards, you will be able to reactivate your INTEL or NVIDIA card or another brand.

Otherwise, while waiting for KASPERKY LAB to resolve its dual graphics card monitoring management problem, you can return to the 2019 version of KESPERSKY ANTIVIRUS which works perfectly fine.

A) Uninstall Kaspersky Anti-Virus if the installation has been made

A guide to uninstall applications for Windows 10 is available here: -tn/help/4028054/windows-10-repair-or-remove-programs

B) Install Kaspersky Anti-Virus 19:
