With HashiCorp Vault, each client (or groups of clients) has a token that gives them access to certain secrets, dictated by a policy. So you can say that a certain token can only read user accounts and give that to your application or Chef. But how do you keep that token a secret?

This creates a secret in a data bag called myapp_credentials in an item called vault_token. The secret itself is a piece of JSON with a key of token and a value of the token itself. The secret is only accessible by sean (me) and server1.example.com. If you later want to add a new server or user to manage it, you need to run

This seems to give a good balance of security and convenience. We manage the Chef specific secrets in the Chef Vault, and use the HashiCorp vault for things that are more general. And the pattern is simple enough to be used in other places.

Today is officially Sean Brock Day at Food Republic. Brock is no stranger to us, and we like it that way. He's one of the most-passionate culinary ambassadors for the American South, particularly his beloved Lowcountry (the coastal region of South Carolina). He's also one of the nicest guys you could share a bottle of Pappy with (and he's usually buying). Today marks the release of his first cookbook, Heritage. And in that lies the chef's secret to making good cornbread at home. Follow it.

When we opened Husk, I knew that we had to serve cornbread. I also knew that there is a lot of bad cornbread out there in the restaurant world, usually cooked before service and reheated, or held in a warming drawer. I won't touch that stuff because, yes, I am a cornbread snob. My cornbread has no flour and no sugar. It has the tang of good buttermilk and a little smoke from Allan Benton's smokehouse bacon. You've got to cook the cornbread just before you want to eat it, in a black skillet, with plenty of smoking-hot grease. That is the secret to a golden, crunchy exterior. Use very high heat, so hot that the batter screeches as it hits the pan. It's a deceptively simple process, but practice makes perfect, which may be why many Southerners make cornbread every single day.

It's no secret celebrated chef Sean Connolly has a knack for creating beloved food venues, with Sydney's Steak & Co, Esther in Auckland and Sean's Kitchen in Adelaide just some of the hit eateries he's behind. But the Yorkshire-born culinary star is keeping things a little more under wraps for his first-ever Melbourne venue, the aptly named Shush Burger, which is set to open from Wednesday, March 29.

Lee became a private chef to a high-profile entertainer, cooking chicken parmigiana, steak frites, and other comforting and healthful staples for their family of five. She finds the job rewarding, even almost two years later, and prides herself on applying her extensive training to the work.

But a personal chef might also be enlisted by, say, a busy doctor or lawyer to handle their grocery shopping and expertly prepare a few dinners weekly. Meals range from Americana, like meatloaf, boiled potatoes, and string beans (especially if they have young children) served family style, to cutting-edge, coursed-out dishes showcasing buzzy ingredients and preparations, like gochujang, berbere, and fermentations.

This is the list of the episodes for the American cooking television series and competition Iron Chef America, produced by Food Network. The series is based on the Japanese series Iron Chef and is a cooking competition in which a challenger chef "battles" one of the resident "Iron Chefs" by cooking five or more dishes in a one-hour time slot based around a secret ingredient or ingredients, and sometimes theme. In most episodes, three judges score the meal in three categories, with 10 points available to each judge for taste, 5 points for creativity, and 5 points for presentation, for a possible total of 60 points. Exceptions are noted for individual episodes.
