The Cisco AnyConnect VPN allows you to connect to Mason networks, making access to restricted services possible as if you were on campus. To connect to the VPN from your Windows computer, you need to install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.

There is a set of tools that I need to use to work on this client's App. but these tools aren't working behind the VPN because it appears that the VPN basically blocks everything (Google, Slack, Android Studio, etc.).

Some USC online-based services require access through on-campus USC Secure Wireless or a wired network connection. USC offers a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to provide secure remote access to these services when you are off-campus. When off-campus, you must use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to access internal USC systems handling confidential or sensitive data, such as Student Information System (SIS), and file servers for specific schools and departments. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client is a web-based VPN client that does not require user configuration.

Hey Guys, New to firewall and have a strange issue. We have a laptop that has cisco any connect client on it but it would not connect. I had created 3 firewall rule the day before the laptop came in and was looking through the rules i had created to see which one was blocking the any connect. Turn out the rule for P2P was causing the issue. Does anyone know why would a P2P rule stop any connect from connecting. Attached is the Application control policy i am using.

Some programs and services, such as Ultratime, are only available when on a campus connection. The VPN client, when connected using your NMU login credentials, simulates an on campus network connection.

Note: In Windows 10, the Action Center VPN option isn't configured. If the client isn't on the system tray already, right-click the icon on the taskbar while the program is open and click "Pin to taskbar."

This tutorial is a walk through on connecting to the campus VPN system with the CISCO AnyConnect client for Windows (64bit). This system went into effect Sept. 2012 with the previous CISCO and Nortel systems and clients becoming obsolete later the same semester.

Uninstall previous CISCO or Nortel VPN clients before proceeding, especially if you have come to MU from another organization that used VPN client. To check, click Start Control Panel Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features. You will be presented with a list of software, sometimes it can take a while to populate. Scroll down and look for Nortel or CISCO VPN client. If found, highlight them and click Uninstall. A reboot may be required, pay attention to messages.

As of March 30th 2020, all Faculty/Staff using the *Employee vpn group MUST use the VPN.MISSOURI.EDU server address when connecting. This is different than the url to download and install the client.

With my current client, I need to be able to access files, servers, and tools on their remote network, which they enable via the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client software. So far, so good. I had no trouble at all installing and connecting with this software from my laptop over my FiOS connection. Just like being at the office.

Using a virtual machine is a good practice for keeping your client environment isolated from your day-to-day experiments or bleeding edge tools, etc. And it also has the advantage of making the environment portable. You can store the VM files on a portable drive, or copy them from one machine to another if you need to migrate systems.

It's prudent to close any open applications a minute or so before disconnecting the VPN client. In Windows operating systems, some applications do not write data right away. If you disconnect your VPN immediately after exiting such a program (Outlook, for example), data may be lost.
