Hello. I'm looking for someguidance on a resource I am trying to post within my Moodle site. I have an MP4that I created within Camtasia studio. The video contains a table of contents,so it needs the affiliated production files to play properly (as opposed tojust attaching the video file alone). Is it possible to do this on Moodle?
I love Camtasia Studio and used it the last 3 years at the college I was working for. When we were using the Screencast.com accounts, we embedded the video in our Moodle, lesson, page, book or quiz and it played well from that site with all the interactive features working. The problem was that some of the teachers ran out of bandwidth on the site and all their students weren't able to access it. When we tried to save it to other sites, such as YouTube, Kaltura, etc. it did not pull in those interactive features. We needed to have the Smart Player involved. I don't know if Moodle can be made to easily pull that player in or if you need to put it on another server to make your own video server with the Smart Player. I am including links below to the information on the TechSmith website in case some of the other more server/programer types know more about it.
Paula- Thank you so much for your response! The resources you posted were very helpful. After reading through my options, I ended up publishingto SCORM and posting directly to the LMS, instead of embedding the videow/Smart Player into eLearning authoring software and then republishing.
I wondered, has anyone done this and if so how and what is required exactly? The intention is to use the player directly in Moodle, which behaves better that then standard MP4 player. I have pinged TechSmith and am awaiting a reply, although I though there are many people who may use Camtasia in these forums so it might be worth a punt here.
I am a lower league team so don't have money to spend on scouting. I've got a report card back where one of the pro's is that the player is 'considered a smart player'. Any idea what attribute(s) this refers to?
I notice with the new game you can request your scouts to look for players of a particular "type" (Leader, Creative, Intelligent, Physical, etc).
My understanding is that the game evaluates a player based on some subset of attributes and picks the most applicable one, so it's possible for a player to have high decisions but maybe still be considered a "physical" player because they have amazing physicals.
It works as a quick look for the types of player you want (if you're searching for Intelligent players for your league, that'll be their strongest points but they'll probably still be good), but I am pretty sure I've also seen a social group classification and I think the game's "player type" and may help with your team's social cohesion if players aren't isolated in their approach to the game.
To the OP's question, I'd definitely suspect that Decisions is a very important attribute, but it may also include some other mental abilities like off the ball/positioning (I'd consider a player that puts themselves in the right position to be a smart player) and maybe also anticipation to play a role. Stuff like Flair wouldn't, as I'm sure that'd go more for a "creative" player.
I look at files from ip and analog and CVI, in my experience not one player plays them all. So I bounce back and forth from different vesions of player. Was hoping there was one version that plays them all and converts to .avi
FYI when I do convert to .avi, Pinnacle (ver.18) can't open the .avi converted from .dav, even tho it's an .avi file now. Butttt....windows movie maker does work with .avi converted from .dav. That's a free tip to everyone out there.
I see now. I have smart player lite. Where do I download the full verison of smart player that converts to .avi? I looked all over Security Camera King and could not fine the full version of Smart Player.
The smart player has been identified with issues on this subject. Right now we have the factory working to correct it. At present part of the work around is to just not use the smart player. Another option would be to download the file in its native format directly from the DVR/NVR. Then convert the file as needed. I too hope we get a fix for it fast.
Every time I try to convert one of my .dav files from an NVR to .avi it will create hundreds of files... Dose this happen to any one else? For instance I pulled a .dav file off my NVR from 8-9 am this morning the file was approximately 375 mb's when I converted it .avi it created 742 .avi files... just snippets of the original .dav file. I have tried several different converters, including the "player" app and tried converting on two different computers. any one have any suggestions?
Thats a lot of snippets. The only thing I can think of is motion detect snippets. In general I just record constantly without motion detect on. That way I get recordings 1hour at a time and then edit. Plus it reduces the load on the cpu and runs smoother. That's my experience and solutions.
I am actually using continuous recording. So when pull the video files off they are usually broken up in to hourly events. Say I download the .dav file to a computer or USB drive in original .dav format it downloads in one continuations file and I can play it back using the Player app. It only breaks it up in snippets when converting into an .avi format.
I have used the .dav to avi converter in the past and it worked flawlessly on an analog DVR system file. The only difference here is I am now using an NVR with HD IP cams and these hour long recordings are about 2.5GB's each. I am curious if the files size has anything to do with it... I don't see why it would matter but who knows? Has anyone else tried converting large .dav files into .avi?
I too have a problem with converting say a 3 hour .dav file to .avi. It simply does not play and I go back and reload just the amount of file that I need. (less than an hour) Then it works fine. I thought I was the only one with this problem. With analog or CVI I can use 2or3 hours of recording and manipulate it just fine. Oh my converted .avi files do not work in Pinnacle Studio movie editor but it does work in Windows Movie Maker in Windows 10. (must be a bit of .dav left in it and converting to .avi)(avi file finalized in Windows Movie Maker works fine in Pinnacle, an extra step but it works)
I don't know if it is still a limitation or not, but Windows historically can not produce an AVI over 2 GB in size when converting formats. I know that is the case through Windows XP - whether they have gotten around that or not in Win 7 or 8 or 10 I am not sure.
The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of Dahua Smart Player to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this video playing program.
Dahua Smart Player is a media player software for Dahua video surveillance cameras. The program includes functions such as play, frame check, intelligent track display and supports multiple-window synchronization play or asynchronous play.Dahua Smart Player reduces the risk of bug occurrence when you are implementing maintenance work and can meet flexible customized requirements.
Features of Dahua Smart Player
Dahua Smart Player can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems with no dedicated 64-bit download provided.Other operating systems: The latest Dahua Smart Player version from 2024 is also available for Mac.
You have to navigate to each folder that contains video (.dav) files to add them to the view list. This is a major PITA, if you are trying to access the folder structure that the Dahua cameras create when they store events. The structure has many levels, here's an example from my camera (stored to my NAS via FTP from the camera):
In this folder the events that occured between 22:00 and 22:59 on the 24th of Feb is stored. Fine, and it makes it easy to actually find a specific recording if you know when it happened. However, that's not what I typically want, what I want is to point the player application to a folder and have it traverse all the subfolders to add all the videos it can find, so that I can quickly play them (sequentially) to look for events.
I've also looked at PSS, but that software doesn't even seem to have an interface for loading files from folders, it problably only works with files that it has written itself, and in my case that defeats the purpose, since the cameras store directly to my NAS.
The destination folders are of the more annoying choices Dahua forces on the user. I emailed them with a request to allow users to control the FTP/NAS destination for the videos and images more precisely and they responded with:
As for dealing with the videos and images on my Windows 7 machine, I use a program called Advanced Renamer, which is a light-weight batch file processor that runs via a GUI or command prompt and organizes the videos (moves them out of those individual folders and into consolidated folders, such as by-day). You can run the .bat file per instance or create a Windows task to have it done automatically to your preference.
