Hello,

I tried to export a character with multiple animations in collada.
When I import it in unity only the last animation is there and it's
name is always "Take 001" no matter how I name it in Animeeple.

In the documentation I came across this sentence "Note that some
formats may not support multiple takes per character, in which case
only the current take will be exported." Is collada one of these
formats? :) If it is then perhaps a warning during the export might
clearify things.

Regards,
Deg

Hi Deg,

Thanks for your post.  Yes, Collada is one of those formats that supports only a single animation, and we should add a warning - thanks for the suggestion!  Collada also doesn't as far as I know support animation names, so what's probably going on is that whatever program you're importing the file into names the animation a default name.  We'll add a warning about that too.

hi Leslie,

Thank you for the response. I guess i have to invest a little then to
get the FBX importer. Fair enough though, the tool seems definitely
worth it.

Cheers,
Hans

I researched all this awhile back and FBX is the way to go.  It is becoming the standard import/export format for 3d information.

The animeeple fbx importer works very well.

Hello Hans,
as far as i know, you can have multiple animation in Collada. They are
called animatin_clips . see http://www.khronos.org/files/collada_spec_1_5.pdf,
page 55.

but almost no viewer/DCC support it , even Softimage's or the
Scenixviewer ( from Nvidia. ).

hope this helps.

Hi Laurent,

Thanks for correcting me about Collada.  Animeeple supports Collada 1.4.1, which seems to be more widely supported than 1.5, which is why I didn't know that Collada actually does support multiple animations.  Appreciate the info!
