Import Height

Hi,

This has been bothering me for a while: whenever I import an iPi .bvh
file, Animeeple wants to measure the height from the top of the chest
to the knees. I imagine there must be something about the .bvh file
that Animeeple doesn't like. Do you have any ideas for fixing this? I
can send a sample .bvh if you wish.

Also, with the latest animeeple update, it looks like the Import
Buttons on the Import Page have disappeared. (For now I'm using the
menu equivalent.)

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Just to be sure it wasn't a problem specific to my .bvh data, I tried
bringing in .bvh files from various other sources (i.e., non-
iPi .bvh,) and I'm seeing more or less the same problem; Animeeple is
measuring imported rig height from top of the chest to the knees,
which of course makes it difficult to judge scale accurately. Could
this be a bug?

Another issue: Animeeple initially reads the .bvh data at maybe 1000%
scale. I'm sure this this is a meters/centimeters conversion issue. I
know I can change default values for export, but can I change default
scale values for import? I would like to set the default import scale
factor independently of the export setting because I'm fine with the
current export settings; it's just import that I'm having trouble
with. I'm currently setting the import scale value to x0.1, which I
think is correct, but because of the inaccurate height feedback, I'm
not exactly sure. And when I set this value to 0.1, it reverts to 1.0
for the next import. I would like to see the value 'stick' after it's
been changed, because all the .bvh files I've been importing seem to
be coming in gigantic in scale.

(Hope my emails are making sense. Sorry, I'm not getting much sleep
lately.) :)?

Alternatively, is there a way to define the desired scale and height
from within the .bvh text file so animeeple reads it correctly?

Thanks in advance.

In the past I tried importing an iPi DMC .dae file and had problems,
but I couldn't remember what the issues were, so I tried it again. It
looks like Animeeple only reads the motion on the root bone but
ignores all other motion in the rig in the .dae file. I'm not sure if
this is an Animeeple problem or an iPi problem, but I thought I should
mention it.

I wish iPi DMC could export FBX as I seem to be having better luck
working with this format between Animeeple and LightWave. I know iPi
are working on it but in the mean time I will need to get either .bvh
or .dae working with Animeeple.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions you might have.

Hi Greenlaw,

This has been bothering me for a while: whenever I import an iPi .bvh file, Animeeple wants to measure the height from the top of the chest to the knees.

Yes, please send us a sample bvh file (con...@animeeple.com) so we can take a look.  Thanks!

Another issue: Animeeple initially reads the .bvh data at maybe 1000% scale.

Animeeple assumes the units are in meters because AFAIK the BVH format doesn't have a units specifier.  Other programs assume the units are inches or centimeters though.  Thanks for your suggestion about making the import scale value "stick".  We'll add that to our to-do list.

It looks like Animeeple only reads the motion on the root bone but ignores all other motion in the rig in the .dae file.

It shouldn't...  Could you send us a sample file showing this problem too?  Thanks.

Leslie

Will do so as soon as I can. (Probably this evening; we're busy working on character vocals now.)

BTW, this morning I worked with the Fix Feet option on a character that has lower hips and a much wider stance than me. After experimenting with the settings for a bit, I got the motion to look quite convincing (i.e., no sliding or popping.) I think I'm finally 'getting it' now...nice job with this feature guys. :)

Best regards,

G.
