Have been reading through J's site and a lot of general and positive feedback. But, as with a lot of extras since M2012, I've been wondering how well AFR and the shelves, scripts, etc do with M2015? I've had a lot of hit and miss when trying to add older (useful and really depended on) extras into 2015, and if the training and processes rely on provided scripts, shelves, etc... if that will be an issue. If so, how have folks got around it? (Some, you can't rely on drag/drop into the appropriate dirs to do it all for you... dunno what happened with 2015 sigh... at least I can still use my comet scripts!)

Thanks, hope to hear soon...

I haven't tried it with 2015 yet, but I do have it mostly working with 2014.  You can search the mailing list and find my fixes from back in 2012 (I think that's when I sent them up)--I'm also (although this has been a long time coming) working on a revamp of the scripts for full 2014+ capability.  Every tool that is used if you follow the book does work though--there's just some points that don't work from the original scripts.  If you build manually it all works like a charm.

Thanks for the reply, good to know that I can spend the $ and dive in with some confidence.

I'm not so hot at rebuilding much it seems (?! I don't recall maya being so finicky previously...). In fact, having a hell of a time with sourcing proper dirs for 2015 to recognize prefs (really, how many places are there for scripts, shelves, a set-up, envs... :-) ) ... some bits copied over from 2012 nicely!, some not so much (in short, I'm on a proj where the bosses are paying the monthly 2015 sub, so must play in that sandbox) Trying to get goZ up right now, ugh! I'm sure we all have some older tho damn useful warhorse extras we'd love to get going.

Thanks again for this, I'll look into the process you shared and get my order along...

Quick follow-up. I saw your post re: creating specific dirs for scripts which you are bringing in and appending your script path... well if that just doesn't make sense! ;-) very nice, and clean and frankly rather simple and effective... I used it to set an older script group straight and it worked well, so thanks.

Alas, gf was laid off yesterday and we are discussing the purchase of a few items of training (this and one off of uartsy) but I think that before long... :-)

Thanks again!

No problem man, glad to hear my posts helped!  I will say, as I've said before (and as I tell all of my rigging students), this is the single best resource I've found for learning how to create good rigs for animation, and I have A LOT of training products that I've purchased over the years.  In production, of course, all of this would be scripted, but you never know when you'll need to make your own setup.
