Dear all

I hope you're well. You can download, as promised, the 'Decasia'
handout here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_soXfIbf-h0N2QwNWI5NGQtNTZmYi00Njk1LWExNmItNjc4ODYxOTNlNjA2
and, for those who weren't able to make the session this week, the
main handout here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_soXfIbf-h0ZGQxNDBiMzAtMThkYy00NmVkLTg0MWYtYTMzYjc5N2VlMTAx

The 'Decasia' handout, if you're wondering what it is, is a transcript
of a Q&A between Bill Morrison (who made 'Decasia' and curator and
writer Gareth Evans at an early edition of the festival I used to run
in Norwich. I thought it might be useful in light of some of the
themes we touched on - and, obviously, gives the artist's perspective
on provenance and process, etc.

see you next week,
adam

Adam, excuse my mental fug but where is the bookmarks site that
you've been referring to? Is there a list of all the films we've been
watching?

Fabulous to see the following at the Whitechapel last night (we had a
small contingent there) on spotless 16mm, maybe he'll get a mention
later in the course but I'd never heard of him:

Hi Camille
If you'd like more like this, maybe you should track down a classic
book that gives some great examples... it's out of print, maybe Edwin
can source a copy?
'Experimental Animation: An Illustrated Anthology' by Robert Russett
and Cecile Starr
See you next week, Clive

Hi Camille, and all

The bookmarks are at delicious.com/forkingpaths

No, we're not showing that one but Whitney will get a mention - I think - in session 6. Was that in connection with the McElheny show? Interested to know what you made of the show itself.
All the best
Adam

There are some copies at Amazon and Abe books. I just bought one, thanks for the tip!

It's a great book. Lots of background on some the key figures.

I don't know much about it, but worth having a look at Bell Laboratories -
a research institute in the US where John Whitney worked. I think Mary
Ellen Bute started doing her 'Abstronica' projects there and I think
that's where Lilian Schwarz developed a lot of her films.

We'll see some Lillian Schwartz in week 6 too... The fabled week 6. It's where it all happens.
