Dear All,

Just to say maybe we should try and have a drink next week those who can spare the time. Does anybody know a nice pub or bar within walking distance. Whats that Jazz place? I saw an interesting old pub near there but i can't remember exactly where. Fantastic interior that seemingly hadn't changed since the 1950's, so much atmosphere but the clientele looked a bit dodgy and out of it… If we don't go to a pub maybe we could have a bottle of wine or two at Lux (is that allowed?). Anybody up for that?

Dear all,

Sadly I will likely be heading to Camberwell straight after next week's class so won't be able to go for a drink but it'd be lovely to meet up another time, for those interested my number is 07846068678.

All the best,

Tulta x

Take your pick from this lot, or do them all...

The Vortex Jazz Club is very close, as is the Dalston Jazz Bar. I've
been to the Scolt's Head, its nice with real ale, wood and I think
there is a pool table.

Well Dalston Jazz bar really isn't a Jazz Bar... people go there only after 2 am to "mingle"

There is Café Oto but they don't have the best selection of beers apart from their own "Oto Ale" they listed below for next Wed:

OTO BAR + OTOBAHN DJs * WED 23 MAY '12 * FREE ENTRY
Come on in and enjoy an OTO Ale or something else from the bar and enjoy a free evening of music with DJs Mandrew B, Mapsadaisical, Mike Modular & Radioolio, playing ambient, kosmiche, jazz, dub, radiophonics and more...
"An adventurous collage of raw and intoxicating sounds from the last century and beyond..."

As a pub, I like, Shacklewell arms is good which is only 2 mins away.

Vortex is good too

I think Cafe Oto beers are the best you're going to get in Dalston, and the atmosphere is really nice on bar nights, the music is decent but unobtrusive and you can get good tea and coffee if you're not drinking :)

My two pence

I'd be happy to follow you anywhere, but can only make it for half an hour anyway. The shacklewell arms is ok - a bit noisy and crowded though. I was there again after the last session actually, meeting the first course for another 'reunion'! It does serve Adnams, which makes it a decent enough place in my book. But cafe oto sounds like a good bet as well - I haven't been there for ages.
Anyway, I meant to say, Sandra, it's a good idea to go for a drink, and hope we manage it,
Adam

Thank you
Rita

Count me in for a drink too. Don't mind where we go, can also vouch for
Cafe Otto. Heard good things about the Shacklewell Arms as well...

On a more fun note, here's a link to an essay by Jean Baudrillard - 'The
Violence of the Image'. I read it a while ago and haven't actually had
time to go back over it in depth (its pretty deep), but I think it takes
the question of how the meanings of images become distorted to its
extreme. It seems to expand on what Adam was talking about last week and
the Oliver Laric films we watched. His reading of the essay is on Ubuweb
too...

Sorry if everyone gets this...

Hi Rita,

We looked at the animated document as the theme this week. My notes are a bit of a mess but here's a list of the artists/films we looked at:

Winsor McKay - Sinking of the Lusitania
Kota Ezawa - Beatles California Uber Alles (but Adam recommended we try watch Sontag, Lennon, Beuys)
Lewis Klahr - The Allusion Gypsy Woman (mentioned False Aging)
Jeff Keen - Marvo Movie
Arthur Lipsett (he was mentioned)
Frank Morris - Frank Film
Morgan Fisher - Parentheses
Jean Gabriel Periot - Deis Irae
Richard Wright - 10000 copyrighted images
Oliver Laric - Clipart Movie and Versions
Miranda Penell (mentioned a film called something like Why Bunny was Killed - not sure about spelling of Penell)
Emma Weislander (mentioned Glacier 60000 and film about jpeg disintegration)

See you next week,
Ana

Hi all, I can't make it out tonight, sorry I'll miss the last/best
one. I have to meet my musician and complete the sound on my film.
Hope you all have a nice night.

If anyone is free on June 9th you can see my film (Truman Brewery,
Brick Lane). It looks like this: http://youtu.be/ZHLuU9-9k9g

Best, Clive

Love Theme is beautiful isn't it. One of my fav melodies. We all had a nice drink in a noisy bat cave but I have my mock show hang tomorrow and am having to finish designs on a poster. I'm tired. Its warm.
The group are going to try and meet up, invite each other to views, screenings etc... so don't be a stranger!

Till the next time

Hi all

It was lovely to meet you all and really nice having a drink and proper chat with everyone last night too! Thanks again Adam for a great course too!

If anyone is interested, there are tons of screenings this weekend at the ICA for the LUX Biennale, see programme of events here:http://biennialofmovingimages.org.uk/festival-schedule/

I'll be there most of tomorrow and over the weekend if any of you make it down!

Best wishes,

Vicki

Thanks for the link Vicki. The Luther Price looks interesting. Hoping I can make it for the Q&A screening tomorrow if I leave work in time so might see you there.

That animation was brilliant (and a little unsettling). Thanks Claire!

Good luck with your degree show Clive! I will definitely try to come down on the 9th.

If anyone has their own websites (it does not necessarily have to be animation or moving image-based) and don't mind sharing a link, I'd love to see your work. My email is anagil...@yahoo.co.uk if you don't feel like sending to the whole group.

Have a good weekend,
Ana
