A few adoptions today (including SANDY!! 🥳) and several requests have made a big dent - THANK YOU! But there are still many wonderful pups in need of their next stop. Please let us know ASAP if you can step up for any of these dogs.

Warmest Wags,
The HTAR Team

Happy Tails Animal Rescue of Washington County, VA
Located: Abingdon, VA

Nala - CODE RED Terrier mix, white/minimal red brindle patching, female, 2-3y, 45lbs. Bouncy, wiggly, happy-go-lucky! Nala is a bundle of absolute fun with her playful, curious temperament. She thoroughly enjoyed dragging us around the play yard today so she could check out every nook and cranny on her big adventure. Totally cute and irrepressible! Nala appears overall healthy but she is a bit on the skinny side; she appears to have recently finished or will be soon starting a heat cycle. Nala came to the shelter as an owner surrender. UPDATE: Likely best as an only dog.

Blue - Heeler mix, gray/black/red, male, 3-5y, 44lbs. Blue is a calm, self-possessed gentleman who rightfully feels he's king of all he surveys with his gorgeous ice blue eyes. He's compact and muscular and, like most heelers, can be a bit stubborn - but isn't that part of their charm? Gave us lots of wags and was happy as can be to allow us to check him over before exploring the play yard. Blue appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray. UPDATE: GREAT DOG TEST! Tested great with multiple partners!

Farm Babies Litter - Hound mixes, 6-8 months. DHPP 5/2 + dewormed. This litter needs someone (or multiple someones!) with a love for baby hounds that have had a rough start. Although they're very scared at the shelter, none showed any sign of aggression at all - most of these pups are just kind of shut down and had to be carried outside to meet us.  But just a few minutes of gentle words and ear scritches earned us so many wags, wiggles, and curious licks. There is a ton of potential here for someone with a little patience! These pups have received DHPP and deworming on 5/2. Before coming to the shelter, they were so hungry that they had to resort to eating PDZ stall bedding on a farm. ❤️‍🩹 This litter is older and none appear to be particularly bonded - they can be split among rescues. Please see individual names and notable info below:

Pluto - black/tan/white, male, 6-8m, 29lbs. DHPP 5/2 Quickly overcomes shyness to be playful and licky!

image.png image.png

Toby - black/tan, male, 6-8m, 23lbs. DHPP 5/2 Sweet as can be once he makes sure you're a friend - playful and waggy

image.png image.png

Towser - black/tan, male, 6-8m, 26lbs. DHPP 5/2 Another pup very in need of TLC - zero aggression but so overwhelmed by the shelter

image.png image.png

Roker - Pittie mix, reddish brown, male, 3y, 68lbs. Roker is a big, handsome, muscular fellow with a lovely personality - just a thoroughly relaxed, curious, friendly guy who's happy to take the world as it comes. He explored the yard with us at a leisurely, self-assured pace, checking things out with calm confidence. A genuinely pleasant boy who made our time with him today easy, despite being surrendered not long before we met him. Roker appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as an owner surrender. 5/13 UPDATE: WONDERFUL DOG TEST! Playful and relaxed!

image.png image.png

Cleo - Border collie mix, black/white, female, 1-2y, 38lbs. Poor Cleo was pretty overwhelmed at first and needed to be carried out to meet us - but once she got her bearings, a whole different dog emerged! Playful bursts of zoomies, curious nose-to-the-ground exploring, and plenty of rolly, goofy energy once she felt safe. She's still finding her footing on the leash and could use some guidance there. Cleo appears overall healthy. She came to the shelter as an owner surrender and is the littermate of Daphne.

Rosebud - Pittie mix, brindle, female, 1y, 50-60lbs. REPORTEDLY SPAYED! Rosebud is exactly as charming as her name suggests - wiggly, rolly, playful, and bursting with puppy energy that she's very focused on sharing with you. She is so impossibly soft! And those eyes - striking bicolor beauties that will absolutely stop you in your tracks. Rosebud appears overall healthy. She came to the shelter as an owner surrender. 5/13 UPDATE: FABULOUS DOG TEST! Super playful and outgoing!

image.png image.png

Daphne - Border collie mix, black/white, female, 1-2y, 39lbs. Like her littermate Cleo, Daphne needed a little encouragement - okay, a carry - to get through the shelter commotion, but once outside she blossomed into a goofy, playful goofball with serious zoomie potential. Her whole vibe shifts once she feels secure, and what's underneath the nerves is a sweet, silly girl with a lot of love to give. She'd benefit from leash work and a patient hand. Daphne appears overall healthy. She came to the shelter as an owner surrender and is the littermate of Cleo.

Aslan - Pittie mix, brindle, male, 6-8y, 46lbs. NEUTERED! Aslan may share a name with a legendary lion, but this mellow fellow is more of a gentle, go-with-the-flow kind of king. Calm, friendly, and relaxed, he strolled around the yard with quiet confidence - waggy, curious, and totally at ease with whatever came his way. He's also great on the leash, which is just the cherry on top of an already very appealing package. Aslan appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray. 5/13 UPDATE: GREAT DOG TEST! Relaxed and approachable - lots of wags!

image.png image.png

Jett - Pittie mix, brown/black/white, male, 1-2y, 60lbs. Jett is a big, handsome, easygoing boy with a calm and friendly temperament that makes him an absolute pleasure to be around. Lots of wags, lots of goodwill, and zero drama - this fellow is just happy to meet you and see what the day brings. One thing to note: Jett has a broken canine tooth that will need attention. He came to the shelter pretty underweight but is eating well. He came to the shelter as a stray.  5/13 UPDATE: WONDERFUL DOG TEST! Calm and gentle!

COMMUNITY/PRE-SHELTER

Aurea - Collie/husky? mix, cream/gray, female, 9-10 months, ~45lbs. SPAYED! UTD on vaccinations! TRIPOD! Aurea is a former HTAR dog - she came to us from animal control after a car strike when she was just a few months old and extremely emaciated. Due to the amount of damage, the impacted rear left leg had to be amputated at the hip. She was adopted locally and, sadly, her owner has made the heartbreaking decision to rehome Aurea due to major changes in her life circumstances. She truly wants the best for her girl! ❤️‍🩹 Aurea is a playful, curious young dog who reportedly gets along well with cats, other dogs, kids, and has yet to meet a stranger. Super well socialized through her owner’s busy workplace. Crate trained and housebroken. Does great on leash and multi-dog walks. Her missing leg does NOT hold her back in the least - she's active, sporty, and loves to run! Full veterinary records available.
