Subject: Fearful pup-found hiding in a bush-looking for her sweet escape! In Need of Rescue! (Baldwin, MD)
Meet Summer! This terrified girl was found as a stray hidden in a bush along a busy road. When initially here Summer was very fearful of the shelter and kennel life. She was difficult to get out of her kennel, cowering in her bed and low growling. With patience and time though she would start to come around, she would soften up with some tasty treats or once she earned your trust she would be happy to accept some pets, although she was still nervous for most interactions. Over time she has increasingly become stressed in her kennel but once she is taken out she really decompresses. She loves treats, especially cheerios, but is content with most snacks and food puzzles. Due to her kennel stress she was moved to a staff members office to decompress even more while she was also placed on anxiety medications. In the office, she took some time to warm up and may still be nervous of strangers but with a go slow approach and some time she warms up. She spent most of her time napping in the office but would accept pets from those who came by to visit. She even began to engage with toys, playing fetch with tail wags and play bows. She really takes to bonding to those who are able to spend time with her and give her the patience so we are hoping to continue to show her that people aren’t all that scary. Due to her high level of stress in the shelter we are hoping to find her rescue placement immediately.
