URGENT—HOUSTON, TX (BARC): ADORABLE HW NEG & NEUTERED AMERICAN BULLDOG JOEY (A1738254) DIES SUNDAY, 02/21/21. NEEDS FOSTER, RESCUE & PLEDGES‼($1,012 in pledge) Poor Joey has gone through a lot in his short life and He needs a hero local foster and rescue hold by noon or he will be euthanized after 1pm. He needs someone who can work with a dog reactive dog, which ought not be a death sentence for him. As the Mom of a dog-aggressive dog, there are amazing positive reinforcement protocols out there from trainers who understand dog behavior. For those of you not so well-versed, just know that reactivity towards another dog and towards a human are TWO DIFFERENT things! Please email BARC...@houstontx.gov to place a hold on A1738254 and call the Rescue office (832) 395-9075 to confirm the hold.

🏷 RESCUE ONLY! 🦴Joey was picked up as a stray in January, adopted ten days later, and was returned in February due to some negative behavior.💔Joey has been very friendly with staff, but does seem to have issues with other dogs-see notes. He came into BARC in January with healed scars and some wounds. It sounds like this big guy hasn’t had the greatest life so far, and may just need time to learn that he can trust.🥺 Joey needs a rescue group that can place him with a patient, experienced handler who can work on his issues and teach him some manners.🦮 Please contact BARC and the page ASAP if you can help him get out of BARC before he ends up on the list!⏰

📝Behavior Note: 2/8 Exaggerated bounce while running along the fence line. Playbowing and vocalizing towards the dog in the next run. NOTE Sprinted through the yard to fetch the tennis ball a number of times. Became overstimulated while playing fetch and began to jump and mouth my arm. Easily redirected back down to the ground with treats. Tongue out, loose, and wiggly as I pet him. Recommend arousal counciling for adopters. Plan to keep stress levels down, work off energy, and provide extra enrichment in the shelter.

2/5 This morning as I approached Joey he had a loose body and a swaying tail. Before I take him out of his kennel I make sure the other dogs are on the other side of the guilitione because Joey is reactive to the other dogs and will start cage fighting with them. While walking he walks forward on his leash eager to go outside. He is treat motivated so that helped with redirecting his attention back to me. I offer him extra enrichment because when he is bored he plays with his blanket and bowls in his kennels.

📝Temp Test: Joey walked on a loose leash , wagging tail and open mouth. As he noticed A1738283 he pulled towards her wagging his tail. As he sniffed he kept a loose tail wag then continued to walk by my side. When coming into the mail hall he saw A1688680. 8680 was just walking around sniffing the ground. Joey noticed the other, got stiff on the leash, hackles raised, tail straight up, started to growl and bark at 8680. Joey Was trying to pull closer to 8680 which we didn't let him. He marked territory as well while the other just ignored him. Once gone a vet tec spoke to him and he got wiggly and was trying to lick her. Dog also went into kennel with no issues.

📝Owner Notes: TOO AGGRESSIVE ALMOST ATTACKED ME THE OWNER. UNCONTROLLABLE AND MAKES ME FEEL SCARED. I BELIEVE HE WAS A RESCUE DOG FROM OUTSIDE. DOES NOT BEHAVE WELL INSIDE HOME NOR OUTSIDE

🏷 This dog is RESCUE ONLY, which means they cannot be adopted or fostered out through the shelter. Instead a rescue tag is needed. They can only leave the shelter with an approved rescue group. Please remember rescues need you to offer to foster in order to tag this dog and save it’s life. Can you help? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

📣 LOCAL FOSTERS NEEDED. FOSTERING IS FREE! Shelter or rescue provide what you need. You just need to ask.

🔴⌛𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧: Pets on euth list at BARC without a hold or tag by 12PM CAN be euthanized starting at 1PM. This means after 12PM you must act with IMMEDIACY! TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. You must be PROACTIVE and communicate with the shelter and confirm a hold! 🏷
