🔥FUEGO NEEDS A RESCUE TAG BY 1PM ON 5/6/23; DIES SATURDAY 5/6 at 11 MONTHS OF AGE AFTER BEING BOUNCED AROUND BY 3 DIFFERENT IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS!! 🔥 He is stressed out and overstimulated at BARC. He showed no aggression towards humans or other dogs while roaming on the streets and actually wanted to play with my unfriendly dog & with another neighbor’s dog (see comment from Nextdoor).

This poor boy needs a break: at 11 months of age, he has had nothing but humans failing him!! First his original Momma in Dallas gave him to her neighbor, who then gave him to his brother in Houston.  This is how I got acquainted with this pooch,

On Monday, May 1, after my partner called me to see if I could help an HPD officer get a stray “pibble” roaming at Riverside Park in his cruiser. Apparently, he playfully jumped on one of the passersby who then called the police who called BARC. There was no bite and not even a scratch —which was duly noted in the police report and I also took a pic of the lady’s arm to err on the side of caution as I was not going to let this poor dog become the scapegoat for all the dog attacks on the news due to negligent owners. Anyways, before BARC arrived, I was able to scan the young dog but the chip was of course not registered. I was able to contact the place in Crandell, TX that implanted the chip who then contacted the person on their records. Krisy  from Dallas called me and I told her that the dog was at BARC. It is from her that I found out that his name was Fuego and that she had given this sweet guy to her neighbor and had told him to register the microchip info at that time.  Apparently, the Dallas neighbor then gave Fuego to his brother in Houston.  Krisy , the very original owner, just underwent surgery and cannot take the dog back; she did however reach out to BARC and to the new irresponsible Houston owner who I found out last night WILL NOT GO AND REDEEM Fuego. I am not sure if it is due to finances and what he would have to pay to get him out, but anyways, leaving an energetic young dog like Fuego outside in the yard with no collar and tag and without any monitoring is a recipe for disaster. After posting the dog on Nextdoor, I sadly found out that it was not the first time this poor pooch had been seen out alone. ARGH!!!

I am beyond overwhelmed with the responsibility of all of these strays popping my way given that I am still recovering from compassion fatigue and struggling with the heavy workload of taking care of my own large aging pack of misfits, feeding my several feral colonies and trying to keep my energetic garage foster pup MacGregor’s needs met. However, I JUST CANNOT NOT LET THIS BOY FALL BETWEEN THE CRACKS ONE MORE TIME: he has had 3 sets of irresponsible owners and should not end up on death row because of this. Heartworm negative pitbulls are on the euthanasia list almost daily and I just cannot try to prevent this from happening or just as bad, having him be bought for $5 by another unscreened irresponsible adopter. Fuego has gone through enough and deserves a human that will be his ride or die for the rest of his life. He is a sweet yet rambunctious puppy who seems to get along with other dogs (he tried to hump my unfriendly boy Charlie when he was found at the park) and does not have an ounce of meanness as you can see in the videos I took while he was in the police SUV while the officer was waiting for the ACO. Again, Fuego is about 11 months old per original owner, HEARTWORM NEGATIVE & MICROCHIPPED. He is now UP-TO-DATE ON ALL VAX and JUST NEEDS TO BE NEUTERED.

Please share  far and wide and email estell...@gmail.com if you can help in any way. If you’d like to pledge money, please email me the amount and should a reputable rescue step up, I will let you know where to honor your pledge DIRECTLY. If you are a rescue who is able to help Fuego, please email to put a tag on A1876994. Thank you so much!

Volunteer Notes

Fuego was already outside when I arrived to BARC so I popped into the run with him. He’s very overstimulated at BARC and, since he has a microchip, I have to assume he came from a home where he was able to work out his energy in a way the shelter just doesn’t allow.  He’s a gorgeous viszla red color and on the slim/trim side. He knows sit but can get very jumpy and pushy, as well as enthusiast about taking treats, so I’d suggest no young kids.   He is very affectionate and would jog up to me to jump in my lap, nibbling my ear and seeking pets. I saw him struggle to potty several times so I think he’s constipated but may also have a UTI brewing, poor guy.

Finder Notes

He showed no aggression towards humans or other dogs while roaming on the streets and actually wanted to play with my unfriendly dog & with another neighbor’s dog. Pics and video are in the police cruiser that picked him up. He excitedly jumped on a passerby to say hello (witnessed by finder), the  person called the police. His original owner in Dallas gave him to her neighbor, who then gave him to his brother in Houston, who left him outside in the yard all the time.he would get out continuously and roam until he was finally picked up. last owner not reclaiming

Shelter Notes

5/3 Tensed body whale eyes lip licking. As i leash him he step back, tensed body whale eyes. He ran out the kennel with his tailed tucked in, as we walked around the kennel he started pulling back, i muzzle and carry into his new kennel

5/4 While approaching dog to pick up from the runs. Fuego was pacing and barking at dogs. He had a tense body with a high wagging tail and raised ears. Once leashed, fuego started pulling hard and somewhat accepts treats. When another dog is present, Fuego starts pulling on the leash. Passing by, is very vocal. will place on enrichment and will cover him up to reduce stimului.

 Medical Notes
