Meet Cali O’Callahan, a sweet 3-year-old, 49-pound girl who’s still adjusting to the big, new world around her. Cali has shown signs of confinement distress (struggles in a crate) and severe return-to-kennel behavior (flailing, pawing, and slight snapping at her leash when going back). She needs a rescue partner who can help her through these challenges in a safe, supportive environment.
On the bright side, Cali loves exploring outdoors and following her nose on the trail—sniffing adventures are her favorite! Though she can be a little shy at first and unsure about touch, Cali is already showing us her affectionate side. After walks, she’s surprised us by leaning in for pets and seeking attention—a glimpse of the loyal, loving companion she’s destined to become with time and patience.
Cali has enjoyed several Dog’s Day Out adventures, including trips to Ft. McHenry, Lake Roland, Federal Hill, Patapsco State Park and Towson University. She loves exploring the trails, walks beautifully on leash, and has been described as gentle, curious, energetic and loving on her outings. Cali soaks up snuggles and happily makes new friends wherever she goes—she’s the perfect companion for any adventure. Cali had a fun weekend sleepover with a volunteer and showed what a sweet, loving girl she really is! She’s housebroken, walked nicely on leash, and enjoyed lots of walks and naps. Cali isn’t a big fan of car rides, but she was perfectly content hanging out at home with her people. She was very sweet with her foster dad’s wife, waited patiently while they chatted with neighbors, and loved curling up right next to them—or even across their legs—when it was time to sleep. One night, she even “spooned” her foster mom! Cali enjoys treats and already knows “sit” and “shake.” She showed interest in playing with a ball and loves being close to her people. She’s not a fan of being closed off in a room away from them and will make sure you know it—she just wants to be where her family is!
Cali has also met other dog pals at BARCS and seems to do best with gentle, easygoing friends.
Cali O’Callahan is looking for a rescue (and eventually a forever home) that can provide structure, kindness, and encouragement to help her feel safe and blossom into her best self.
