****2ND ATTEMPT**** Please help Zara

These animals are located at Iredell County Animal Services in Statesville, NC!

At this time, Iredell County Animal Services does NOT have transport “connections”, so it will be UP TO THE RESCUE wanting to pull the animal to coordinate transport!

If your rescue is interested in an animal, please email Amber at Rescu...@iredellcountync.gov and include: the animal’s name (and/or Animal ID#), your name, and the rescue group you are affiliated with!

If your rescue is new to pulling from ICAS or has not updated the Rescue Agreement since January 1, 2023, you MUST submit the Rescue Agreement paperwork before any hold or transport can be arranged.

Rescue Agreement link: https://www.iredellcountync.gov/icas/forms/rescue_agreement

(Tip: Complete and send this in as early as possible when you’re inquiring about an animal!)

🐾Zara (A318659) 5-year-old Bulldog mix; 38 lbs.🐾
Zara's story began when she wandered onto a resident's front porch. Although the finder initially hoped she would simply continue on her way, Zara seemed to have other plans. After briefly leaving, she returned and made herself right at home on the porch. Animal Control was contacted and found Zara calmly settled there, patiently waiting, before transporting her safely to the shelter.
Behaviorally, Zara has proven herself to be a friendly and social dog. During her dog-to-dog assessment, she greeted the other dog appropriately with polite introductions and mutual sniffing. Once the initial greetings were complete, Zara showed that she was more interested in exploring her surroundings alongside her new canine companion than engaging in active play. She demonstrated relaxed, appropriate social skills and appears capable of coexisting well with other dogs.
Adored by shelter staff for her gentle nature and sweet personality, Zara has quickly become a favorite among those who know her. She is a kind, easygoing girl who deserves the opportunity to find a rescue willing to give her the fresh start she's been waiting for.

During Zara's medical exam, the following medical conditions were discovered:
  • Low-grade heart murmur (grade 2)
  • Dental disease
  • Superficial masses
  • Evidence of previous abdominal surgeries, suspected to be from prior C-sections
  • ✅Heartworm negative
  • ✅Up to date on age-appropriate vaccines and preventions
  • ✅Spayed
Zara has already proven she's determined when she finds a place she likes! Now she's hoping to find a rescue willing to offer her the care, comfort, and the fresh start she deserves.
In return, she'll provide plenty of affection, companionship, and the sweet personality that has made her a favorite among shelter staff!
