Dear ELP alums -

A number of you are working in territories that meet the requirements for this new PES scoping study commissioned by UNEP and being carried out by EcoAgriculture Partners and Forest Trends.  Take a look at the "desired attributes" below and get in touch with me or, better yet, directly with co-lead,  Rachel Friedman at EcoAg (rfri...@ecoagriculture.org) if you would like to submit your territory/landscape/project for review and possible support.  It's a great opportunity.  Find a brief description below and more details in the attached document.

Thanks,

Robin

EcoAgriculture Partners, in collaboration with Forest Trends, is conducting a new scoping and research project on the potential for payments for ecosystem services (PES) in agricultural supply chains. The study is supported by UNEP, which plans to support the implementation of agricultural PES projects in several of the top candidate sites.

We are seeking assistance in identifying prospective sites for these pilot PES agreements that could provide incentives for agricultural producers to manage lands for both agricultural productivity as well as the provision of ecosystem services. Desired attributes of these sites include:

  • Food-insecure agricultural producers;·
  • Private buyers of ecosystem services or partnership with private sector possible;·
  • Both buyers and sellers of agricultural commodities located in developing countries;·
  • Working agricultural landscapes;·
  • Strong conservation opportunities and provision of climate regulation, watershed, and/or biodiversity services.

Attached to this email, you will find a worksheet to use as a guideline to identify potential sites and actors. If you can take a moment to fill it out, we would greatly appreciate the input.
