Young leaders, diversity and the environment

From the Sierra Club to Silicon Valley, new and old efforts to diversify have taken center stage in the ever-amplified conversation on race relations in America. Recently, we’ve experienced what happens when diversity and environmental advocates join forces to address the diversity gap the green movement is experiencing. Millennial environmental organizer, Dorien Paul Blythers, challenges the status quo on diversity's role in shaping the future of America's built and natural environments.

Blythers is a Los Angeles-based millennial inspiring small business, non-profits, campaigns, and individuals through custom approaches to connect with diverse communities. His passion to bridge the gap between underrepresented communities and mainstream social movements has propelled him forward as an emerging leader on the national stage.

Tasked by Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Blythers helped lay the groundwork for the multi-faceted “Partnership for Environmental Leadership” between EDF and Howard University. In 2012, he spearheaded President Barack Obama’s re-election operation in Riviera Beach, FL and since then has continued to build at the intersection of environmental advocacy, diversity and strategic outreach landing opportunities with congressional candidates, People for the American Way, The Outdoor Foundation, U.S. Green Building Council, Transportation for America, Embassy of Haiti, U.S. Department of State, World Learning and The White House.
