Youcould port it yourself, but I wouldn't hold my breath for someone to do it for you. Significantly better units with current wireless chips and sufficient resources to support current, secure firmware (at least 16 MB of flash and at least 128 MB of RAM) start at under US$20.

you can see that something wrong with squashfs.

rootfs_data partition (read/write part of rootfs) is not created. So jffs2 filesystems creation fail.

You ignore 4/32 warining but I think that your firmawre is too big.


You can build a great image if you use 18.6.8, but 19.7 is stretching it... Here's what I have in my 4MB (really 3,5MB) MR3020 build. Since the Jwnr2000 isn't a travelrouter I probably wouldnt include USB support and instead would switch it out with banip/vpn policy routing/Ipv6 or something.


Almost done, device is up and running, just doing some final checking on some gpio leds config. But the problem is I kinda backport the necessary tools to lede-17.01 branch (kernel 4.4). On 19.07 branch or master (kernel 4.14/5.4) image size gone over 3.8MB, this is without luci and even if I disable some kernel options like dump core/crash dumps it's still over 3.8MB on master, 19.07 barely fits and u can't install anything..my last resort will be 18.06.


I sent PR and official support added git commit. LuCI won't fit, disable some options to compile it, follow this.

Also backported it to 18.06 branch, here is the source and compiled image also uploaded in release section with luci support.


It works! I had a problem with the LEDS not working.But I flashed a new version with kmod-leds-gpio, and then it all worked. I was gonna flash the old version without kmod-leds-gpio just to make sure that that was the culprit, but then I bricked it. Oh well.


I'll chime in after I've soldered some pins to access the serial console. (which may take some time, I don't have any laying around). I tried to debrick it all the usual ways including the sercomm utility, so I guess the serial console is the only remaining option.-


did u try with the nmrpflash to debrick it ? netgear routers r literally unbrickable if the model has sercomm bootloader (custom uboot) and jwnr2010v5 has it...no matter what image u push to the router by nmrpflash or tftp, u can't damage the bootloader and as long as the bootloader is fine the router can be recoverable


Windows will say the cable disconnected, even though I set static IP. If I hold down the reset button before I plug in power and hold it a few seconds, the power and wlan leds will blink alternatively. I am then able to "not get" cable disconnected when using Lan 3 after a few seconds (but Windows shows line speed as 10mbit, not 100). I am then able to fire off nmrpflash, but nothing will happen when I plug off/on the power plug. Also no ping whatsoever, tried the sercomm tool that only works in XP (which I sucsessfully revived WNDR3700v5 with once). Tried TFTP ..I tried it all I just remembered I have som shady routers..


Also the reason why it bricked was that it goes to 100% cpu usage pretty fast after rebooting, the first time I managed to flash (manaully in console with mtd, but the second time everything just froze before it had completed). I was gonna try to figure out why the cpu usage went up to 100% next. (I used the same config for a MR3020 that works fine)


Ok, I'm back up. I managed to use the nmrpflash tool to revive it.

(Had to reboot and then connect/disconnect to another router, or something.. I don't really know to be honest, Windows network is like that sometimes. But now the tool works everytime so I'm just glad I didn't had to whip out the soldering iron.)


Anyways 18.06 is pretty great on this thing. Thanks! Only thing is that Luci can be very sluggish, espescially initially. Maybe writes to the flash is very slow?

This is what I managed to fit, with space to spare, using 18.06-snapshot.


I tried to up the frequency and it certainly didn't hurt. But it still is sluggish to the point of Luci timing out.

It seems to do this whenever I first connect to an AP. (Haven't tried the wan port, just wlan cLient). It seems all the backgrounds processes start "doing sh**" whenever there is an internet connection. (even if though they mostly are disabled by default, they seem to do something)

I did compare it to an old MR3020 router and this too is a little sluggish, when an internet connection is discovered, but Luci stays relatively responsive. (it is the same configuration except the ar71xx vs MT7620+zram). Anyways it's just a minor inconvenience and probably won't happen on a standard configuration. After a minute it's mostly back to normal.


My android, switch and switch lite can make connection to my router, but can't get access to internet. I've still an internet connection by cable, tried a restart and factory reset, yet problem still arise.


Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi: On your device, go to the Wi-Fi settings, find the network you're connected to, and select "Forget" or "Remove." Then, reconnect to the Wi-Fi network by entering the password again.

Check for IP Address Conflict: If multiple devices on the network have the same IP address, it can cause connectivity problems. Ensure that each device connected to the network has a unique IP address.

While all these consumer class routers (talking of your WNR2200 as well as the JWNR2010v5 and most likely your 3rd party device) are offer a simple Guest WiFi network configuration (in router mode only), with limited network segregation (only Layer 3 data filtering), there is no way this guest network can be extended - not over the Ethernet, not over a WiFi bridge or wireless extender or whatever. The same concept is (ab-)used also on Netgear Orbi platform, on the simple WAC with it's (optional) router mode.


Technically you could disable the JWNR2010v5 DHCP server, and configure a dedicated static IPv4 address for each, and just connect the switch LAN port(s). Lack of a default gateway, the JWNR2010v5 itself wont have access to the Internet - as there are unlikely new firmware updates coming, time and date wont' be properly set. But it would act as a pure wireless access point.


Even if there would be a WiFi AP mode config for the JWNR2010v5, there would be only one SSID - or if there would be a Guest SSID (I don't know) - all will connect to your switched L2 network - so this would not help you either.


There might or might not be Open Source like DD-WRT firmware permitting to properly configure multiple SSID on the WNR2200 and the JWNR2010v5, bridging these to a dedicated VLAN (or at least to a dedicated Ethernet port) and run different TCP/IP subnetworks on both VLANs resp. individual networks. This would be more a project for hardcore IT pros or students 8-)


If you want to operate your primary (W)LAN over multiple access points, and provide (W)LAN access for guest in a dedicated network, there is no way around the deployment of Internet router able to deal with multiple security zones (VLANs) [Note: Netgear has .. none!], probably a VLAN capable GbE switch (consider PoE), and finally some wireless access points permitting multiple SSIDs bridged to dedicated VLANs as ie. the WAC510.


Your requirement is not uncommon - just the mainstream vendors ignore these requirements for years, they continue offering "consumer" routers with specs form the early 1990ties. It's a shame Netgear does not really offer a solution for us here. Mi dispiace, I would like to give you a better answer for your plan.


PS. Please don't blame @ElaineM - your question was certainly somewhat off her comfort zone because this functionality does not exist on Netgear's Home Network / WiFi Router offings she does care of here.


before you told me to check that option and I told you that with that option the guest will see the whole LAN and in the last post you wrote that if I want to obtain the security level I want, I haven't to select the same option..... could it be you answered too much fastly?


Is there in this forum any one who can answer me if I can hope in a simple "AP mode" option selectable to obtain what I need? I think it wouldn't be so complicated. I think it could reached simply releasing a firmware update.
