Nick mentioned a couple of weeks ago (in response to the 2nd teaching) that
the world is a "hurting (and hurtful) place." The Creed does not go into
how the creation went from "very good" as God made it to its present state
of corruption from God's good purposes. What is it that we need saved
from? In essence, sin has alienated us from God (and the life He created
us for), from ourselves, from each other, and from the rest of creation.
God's mercy and love are indeed beyond our comprehension and we have a hard
time grasping that God loves us, even me, so much that He sent Jesus to
restore us, each of us, to Himself, and to life and health and peace - to
begin the healing and restoration that will be fully made manifest in us at
the end of the age. "He is good and His mercy endures forever!"
