Chapter 8-10

The first word of chapter 8 indicates that we have to understand what
has been said in the previous chapters in order to understand the
implication that the apostle is about to announce.
“THEREFORE” – even though as a Christian you continue to struggle with
sin – if you understand justification (ch.3-5), imputed righteousness
(ch.4), being united with Christ through baptism (ch.6), and the
difference between the law and the gospel (Ch.7), let me tell you, the
apostle says, what that means for you: “Therefore, there is now no
condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (8:1).
Let that soak in – no condemnation. The believer in Christ is free
from sin, free from the guilt of the law, and free from condemnation.
Free, alive, not guilty, acquitted, chosen, released, and loved. Why?
Because of something we have done? No, for one reason only – “It is
God who justifies” (vs.33). And nothing in heaven or on earth can
challenge what God says is so.
This great truth applies to both Jews and Gentiles even though it
appears the Jews have missed the boat (ch.9,10). “Everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved” (10:13).
