I'm happy to be involved in Stokefest as a teacher on 8th June, being based
in Stoke Newington - how can I say no.

If anyone else would like to be involved I'm happy to co-ordinate the Angel
Knitters.

Nina, my direct email is kidd...@hotmail.com if you would like to get in
touch

Hi Julie,

I found the best book to learn Crochet from is "The Happy Hooker" by Debbie
Stoller. I received it as a Xmas pressie last year, and learned to properly
crochet in a day from it. I had a tiny head start, as I'd been shown the
hooking technique before but not quite got my head around it... So, I found
the clear pictures and text really helpful.

Have you moved down to London then? It you pop along to AngelKnits one
Tuesday, I'll be glad pack the book, and to show you the basics, although,
I'm still very much a knitter!

Saying that, I've never made a garment either, and I've been knitting nearly
three years! So, I wouldn't sweat it, just enjoy the knitting process,
that is what I do! :-)

Dear Angel Knits,

I am contacting you in the off-chance that your group might be interested in
participating in the interative area of Stokefest this Sunday 8th June.
www.stokefest.co.uk. It is a free community festival in Stoke Newington
which happens every year and attracts about 30,000 people.

The organisation I'm working with for this proposal is an Oxford-based fair
trade organisation called Trading for Development (TFD)
www.tradingfordevelopment.co.uk. The organisation links fair trade
co-operatives in Latin America to suppliers in the UK etc. People will be
able to learn about the producers; more about fair trade; the materials
produced from different regions (Peru, Bolivia, Chile) and children (and
adults) will have the opportunity to write them messages/ send them knitting
patterns/ pictures etc and we will post it to them as the director of
TFD works closely with these co-operatives with the aim of improving the
local economy.

I thought that knitting & weaving would be the perfect medium to allow
people the opportunity to see the wool they produce and learn how to knit.

I am hoping to reach out to the community via a knitting group and so was
wondering whether this is something you might be interested in. It would be
wonderful if your group would be interested in lending some time to give a
knitting workshop for children and/or adults during that afternoon. If you
have any comments or suggestions then I would be really pleased to hear
about them.

Best wishes

Yolanda

I am happy to help out for a couple of hours! I love
teaching people to knit!

I am sorry, I have never actually come along to your
group ... I keep really wanting to ... It's always one
thing or another (normally work-related, huh.)

Local co-ordinator all cool and groovy. Do give Yolanda a call.. :-)

I should be free to get invovled as well, as I've not got anything in the diary for that day.
I'll get some Flyers and promo-materials setup for us with our logo etc.
Do mention to Yolanda that we will need yarn to teach with of course, and as people will want to keep knitting, we might want to think about suggesting there getting "Starter kits" for us to sell as well from their Fair trade peoples?  I wonder who we can tap for needle donations to go with them...

We'll chat about it next week as well, but everyone on here please do chip in with ideas and offers to help out! :-)

Yolanda,

Angel Knits would love to help you with StokeFest on 8th June with volunteer
knitting teachers. We have 3 already confirmed and I have volunteered to be
the co-ordinator so you don't have to keep too many people in the loop.

Some initial suggestions from our side follow below, but don't worry we
would love to help come what may and might be able to help to provide
solutions as well as teach.

Could you provide us with Yarn and needles to teach with?
Seats to sit on - around a table works well.
Where will you be positioned? Similar events for "UK hand kitting" have
identified that near a food venue works well, (but not so near people use
your seats as an extension to the café) or near a high traffic area, where
members of a group can drop off someone to learn and pick up on the way
back.

To keep people knitting and therefore buying stuff to knit with, have you
thought about "Starter kits" for us to sell, wool from your Fair trade
sources, simple non copy righted patterns (we might be able to help here)
and needles (ideally fair-trade sourced)

We have some Flyers and promo-materials for us with our logo and meeting
details on an hopefully you won't object if we had these on display too.

We have our usual group meeting on Tuesday - starting at 6pm in the New Rose
Pub, Essex Road N1 if you are local you are very welcome to come along and
meet us all.

Best regards,

Anna
