Hi guys,
I have laid off from riding for a while, but I started riding again here in Crested Butte, Co. a couple of weeks ago. I am riding with a senior athlete who is training for the Senior World Games in St. George, Utah in early October. He weighs about 130 lb and is all heart and lungs. I can power by him on the flats, but he climbs like a mountain goat and leaves me with my tongue wrapped around my waist. He lives in West Texas at 6000 ft and comes to Crested Butte, where the local paved roads range in altitude from about 8400 to 11,000 ft, for two or three months each summer and fall to train. My climbing pales compared to his, but he is working me hard, and it is good for me.
Today, stage two of the US Pro Cycling Challenge is being ran between Aspen and Mt. Crested Butte. It's a 105 mile stage with total ascent of about 12,200 ft. The finish is at about 9400 ft. Many of the riders are from the recent Tour de France. There are 16 teams and riders from 25 countries. Top notch guys. I hope to get some good photos if it doesn't rain too much, and I'll try to send some along.
Hopefully, I'll ride with the group again soon. Nancy and I get back to Texas in early September. Maybe it'll be a bit cooler then. You guys be safe on the road.
Best regards,
Glenn Davis
