There has been a lot of discussion as of late concerning the Tuesday out & back on hwy. 103e & suggestions for an alternative, due to the excessive heat, safety & other concerns. A more north-south route would provide more shade from the sun, as well as a later start time in the hottest part of summer.
Suggested route: Diboll out & back, with two options for looped routes.
Out & back would be about 15 miles & encourage beginners to join the group rides.
Loop options from the turn around in Diboll vary, one option into Hudson (w/last leg options varied) & the second option FM1818 to FM58, FM2108 & back to FM819. A counter-clockwise route would give you about 27 miles & two major crossings at traffic signals.
The ride start would be at the intersection of College (FM819) & Daniel McCall (Old Diboll Hwy). Angelina College has a pretty strict policy, concerning parking in their lot, so I will investigate if the Lutheran Church would allow us permission.
As far as start times, let's move to 6:00pm, allowing a bit of daylight buffer for mechanical or flats.
Please post all opinions on these & let's discuss pros & cons. We want all cyclists to have a good experience & we can always revert back to the hills of 103w on weekends, or as cooler weather allows & we get closer to the Pineywoods Purgatory.
Respectfully,
John.

I'm good with that route, I've been doing a loop from Anderson Elementary in Crown, out  Hwy 58 to FM1818, to Diboll, then 69 N back to airport and turning onto airport road and back to Crown It's almost 30 miles.  Never have been thrilled about the 103 route, although the hills are great training. It's just really dangerous in my opinion, despite a shoulder. Thanks for the post!
