On 9 February 2016, a reboot to the film, titled Judwaa 2, was announced. The film is once again directed by David Dhawan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and features David's son Varun Dhawan in the leading double role.[9] The trailer of Judwaa 2 was unveiled to audiences on 21 August 2017 and the film was released on 29 September 2017. The only cast members from the original Judwaa appearing in Judwaa 2 are Anupam Kher, albeit in a different role, and Salman Khan in a cameo appearance, while the only songs recreated from the original "Judwaa" were the famous "Oonchi Hai Building (Lift Teri Bandh Hai)" and "Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara (Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12)".

Ayananka Bose is the cinematographer of the film. The film has been edited by Ritesh Soni and the production designer of the film is Rajat Poddar. The screenplay has been written by Yunus Sajawal and the dialogues have been penned by Sajid-Farhad.[11][12][13]

Govinda and David Dhawan have given several hits like Coolie NO. 1, Hero No. 1, and more. For Judwaa the actor was the first choice of the director as he wanted to make the film with his hit actor. However, things did not work out as the director thought and Salman Khan took up the leading role. Apparently, Govinda was at the peak of his career after Banarasi Babu and decided to give Judwaa to Salman Khan who wished to lead the movie. Salman Khan and Govinda share a great bond since there initial days of their career that the latter did not do a film on one request. Eventually, Bhaijaan took over the 1997 film Judwaa. Even after the success of Judwaa both maintained a cordial and respected relationship. They have no hard feelings for each other and later worked together in the 2007 film Partner. Govinda has even publicly thanked Salman Khan for helping him when his career took a setback.

In Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, his character Badri abducted the girl and locked her inside the trunk of his car. His father threatened to hang her in the town square and none of them apologised for these specific incidents of violence inflicted on the woman. Yet the film was being hailed far and wide as 'feminist'.

Because, though true to Bollywood, boor extraordinaire Badri gets the girl, he also gets ridiculously sloshed and tells his horrible, violent father at the conclusion of the film that he is a bad person who doesn't not let women pursue careers. My guess is people in India found it fairly progressive that the protagonist did not actually let the woman he abducted die inside the trunk of the car. Though common human sense says, such a man shouldn't be let alone near an ant unsupervised, forget a human being, in the Indian scheme of gender justice, all was fair in love and two super-hit nightclub numbers. The rousing support for Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya was symptomatic of how even in the presumably 'aware' social circles in India, dignity of women is considered a conditional allowance, not an unquestionable right, the breach of which should be met with punishment, not romance. In a country with a frustrating understanding of gender equality, we actually cannot afford to send out mixed messages as Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya did.

Judwaa 2 doesn't even pretend that nearly two decades have passed since the original film was released, when there were just a few channels to call out it's obnoxious sexism. Which brings us to the question, what gave the makers the courage to go ahead and make the same film, its misogyny intact? Look no further than the film's raging collections and the nearly non-existent protests, to figure what.

Taapsee Pannu is on cloud nine. She is a name to reckon with in the Hindi film industry today and she has fought her battles to reach where she is now. The star of Manmarziyaan, the just-released Anurag Kashyap film, Taapsee was at the India Today Mind Rocks 2018 in Delhi today.

The actress went on to ask, "Why did you [the audience] make Sanju a Rs 300-crore film? The kind of lifestyle that person [Sanjay Dutt] had -- he's a total anti-hero if you think of it the conventional way. It was up to the audience to make him the hero or to make Sanju a 300-crore film."
