Greetings AIG,
This email regards establishing leadership positions in the AIG for the coming year. So, if you're not interested in participation in this capacity, no need to read this. If you are, please read on...
Seeing that the AIG has grown from a handful of active members to much larger group this year, we will be adding a few leadership roles. There are opportunities for leadership within each class. All AIG leaders will be trained as 'managers' of the AIG website and be expected to update the site appropriately.
Leaders will be selected, in conjunction with U of MN faculty, based on the applicant's reasoning/desire for leadership role, personal attributes/experience and, most importantly, demonstrated commitment to the AIG. Below is a list of the positions along with descriptions of responsibilities (of course, duties will not only be limited to those listed).
If you are interested in and qualified for any of the positions listed below, please send me (pete....@gmail.com) a breif email stating the position of interest, your class year and a few sentences explaining your (1) reasoning/desire for leadership role (2) applicable personal attributes/experience and (3) the AIG events you've attended and/or helped with. Thanks!

MS2 Representative and Shadowing Database Manager
-- This position will be filled by 1 (or 2) motivated MS2s. Even though it's early in your medical school path, the person or people who commit to this position should seriously be considering a career in anesthesiology. It will be a good way to meet and maintain relationships with local docs. It's no small task to maintain the shadowing database; you will also help advertise events to your class. Attendance will be expected at all AIG functions.
MS3 Representative
-- This position will be filled by an MS3 who is fairly certain that anesthesiology is a good match for a future career. Responsibilities will include advertising events to your class (not always easy because everyone is on rotation) and helping other AIG members pursue and apply for away rotations. Attendance is expected at all AIG functions.
Minnesota Society of Anesthesiologists Representative
-- This position will be filled by an MS4 who is definitely applying to anesthesiology residencies. This individual should be very motivated to pursue and maintain a relationship with the MSA. We made great strides this year in establishing a connection with the MSA and by the time you start, there will likely be a dedicated student membership status! Other responsibilities include: promote the twice-yearly MSA conferences, attend all appropriate MSA meetings, report MSA issues/happenings back to the AIG via our webpage. Attendance at all AIG functions is mandatory.
Workshop, Activities Fair and Social Coordinator
-- This position is for an MS4 future anesthesiologist year with a knack for teaching and procedures. Once of the most important things the AIG does each year is host at least 1 Anesthesiology Skills Workshop, open to all medical students. This not only serves to maintain a strong relationship between in the AIG an the U of MN Dept of Anesthesiology and the SimPortal, but also it provides valuable exposure to the field for many students considering a career in anesthesiology. This position is a wonderful opportunity to develop a strong relationship with staff at the U of MN. Other responsibilities will include ensuring the AIG has a wonderful and enticing 'table' at the Student Activities Fair and coordinating other AIG social events throughout the year. Attendance at AIG functions is mandatory.
AIG Chair and ASA Student Section Delegate
-- This position will be filled by a very motivated and organized MS4 who has committed to pursuing an anesthesiology residency. The most important function of this position is to support all AIG members by ensuring quality programing and providing exposure to the specialty for all those who desire to learn more. This person will handle the groups finances, oversee all programming, ensure the website is updated and maintained and represent the group both to the U of MN and at a national level. Findings, events and developments at all levels of organized anesthesiology will be appropriately relayed to the rest of the group. This person will also determine the MS1 best suited to be a class representative this coming fall. Attendance at the ASA annual conference is VERY strongly encouraged and attendance at all AIG events is mandatory.
