In the mid-19th century, a rocky cliff near the location of what later became Eagle Point was a favored nesting place for eagles. An area resident, John Mathews, is said to have suggested "Eagle Point" as the name for a proposed post office in the community. The post office was established in 1872; Andrew McNeil was the first postmaster.[8]

Streetcar traffic began to serve the park in 1912. The Union Electric Company constructed the track, turnaround, and waiting station in the area above the park entrance where the eagle statue and flower beds are located. In 1920, a bathing beach was constructed but closed when the lock and dam was built in 1933.

Today, approximately 240,000 people visit the park each year and more than 1,200 events are held at the park. A hike/bike/walk trail, following the original trolley line trail, from Shiras Avenue to the turnaround with the large eagle statue was completed in 2010.

Country Road traverses the top of the mountain but then takes a sharp right and cuts diagonally across the mountain toward the Lookout Quad Chair. The runs below Country Road along the diagonal are hike-out only. When we were at Eagle Point in January 2023, it was the best snow I had all season up to that point.

Grand Canyon's West Rim is the location of Eagle Point. This natural rock formation sits on the private land of the Hualapai reservation. Created by nature, rather than man, these sacred rocks are shaped like an eagle spreading its wings and has a rich history to match. It's one of the most stunning photographic opportunities due to its unique appearance and is a special point of interest for the Hualapai People. Seeing Eagle Point by air is the best way to take in the full expanse of this rock formation.

The Eagle Point area of the canyon was originally known as the "battleship" and was later renamed by one of the Hualapai people to "Eagle Point" when she saw the outline of an eagle in the rock formation. Legend has it, in the early years people once lived at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and an eagle flew down to warn the people of a great flood. As the eagle flew back up, it stayed near the top of the canyon to watch over the people. Then it turned to stone where it remains to this day. Eagle Point provides excellent views for visitors to the area. The Hualapai Tribe has spent many years working to develop the area with a lot of "must-do" attractions.

Eagle Point is home to an authentic Native American village that includes an amphitheater that allows guests to enjoy daily live musical and dance performances or lectures on Hualapai history. It's the location of the famous Skywalk, a glass bridge structure that allows visitors to "walk the path of the eagle" and step out over the Grand Canyon for a one-of-a-kind perspective 4,000 feet in the air! At Eagle Point, you'll find Native American walking tours, including replicas of authentic dwellings from a variety of Native American tribes. There's also an art and gift shop where you can pick up handmade, authentic Native American jewelry and crafts.

It is patrolled by the Corps of Engineers; persons in the camp without a reservation are subject to being removed. The council property encompasses the finger-shaped points that jut out into the Kerr Res. between the water tower and Eagle Point Landing.

Camping Area 1 is on the easternmost point in Camp Eagle Point. It is the most developed of the three areas, having one picnic shelter and two latrines. There is room for four average-sized units to camp in Camping Area 1, although two units will have to share each latrine. Camping Area 1 can be reached by vehicle, although the road may become difficult in wet weather.

Camping Area 2 is on the middle point in Camp Eagle Point. It is more rugged than Camping Area 1 in that there are no latrines or facilities at Camping Area 2 other than one picnic shelter. There is room for two units in Camping Area 2, but only one would have the use of the picnic shelter.
