Hi Jennifer,
I agree that AndTweet is good Open Source application for learning,
and this is exactly why _I_ joined this project almost two years
ago :-)
It is good for learning:
- Android as modern mobile platform,
- Twitter as an example of social network/media application,
- Java as universal programming language,
- modern software development tools (Eclipse, Mercurial, Google
project hosting applications etc.),
- Open Source, community based development processes and practices
(including testing),
- ...

AndTweet has some tools for testing:
1. Testing application called "AndTweet tests", see
package="com.xorcode.andtweet.tests" (http://code.google.com/p/
andtweet/source/browse/#hg%2Ftests).
It covers only small part of AndTweet’s functionality and I didn’t
compile it for while… Maybe it needs to be updated to be able to
compile/to work properly.
2. Extensive Logging that greatly helps in understanding how the app
works (especially concurrency…). Plus recently new preference "Minimum
logging level" was added to allow changing Logging level from within
the application Preferences.

So, of course, you may start contributing to this project, today or at
any time when you feel you can spend some hours for the project.
You are welcomed!

The hard part is that AndTweet development group is VERY small.
Actually I'm the only active developer during last year… But maybe
your enthusiasm will “wake up” somebody?! ;-)
Personally I’m always willing to help but I don’t have much time for
this…

Anyway I think we can start! You may start from:
- cloning the repository (http://code.google.com/p/andtweet/source/
checkout ) and playing with the code/existing test cases…
- or playing with ready to use AndTweet package (please use the latest
from http://code.google.com/p/andtweet/downloads/list ),
- …

PS: I decided to answer you questions in this open forum to increase
our chances to foster project's community :-)
Please answer in the AndTweet group also.

Best regards,

I am a student at the College of Charleston, and I havebeen assigned a
project to test any open source application.
My group and I decided to focus on Android Applications, and your
AndTweet app stuck out to us as an interesting application to test. We
have just begun the process, and we are very new to testing. For these
reasons, we are looking for an application that provides a lot of
support for students still in the learning process.
If you believe you will be able to contribute enough help and time to
our questions, we would love to commit to testing AndTweet. Please let
me know your thoughts as soon as possible as we have our first
deliverable due on Tuesday.
Thank you for your time, Jennifer Green.
