Hello,

I'm currently working on a project using ontology-based reasoningon an
Android phone. Androjena can make the necessary treatments (loading
ontology, creating individuals, ...). But the loading time of the
ontology from an OWL file is long (33 seconds for Android 1.6, 17
seconds for Android 2.2).

Is there a way to reduce this loading timeor is it a problem you are
currently investigating?

Best regards
Idriss

Dear Idriss,

I need to know a couple of things:

How large is the ontology? and in which format?
Which device and/or emulator are you using?

Best,

Hi,

Ontology is about 2505 lines, and I'm using the Android emulators 1.6
and 2.2.

Thanks & regards

Hi Idriss,
the number of lines of your ontology is not a very helpful measure in understanding the number of entities it describes; anyway, if the contents are indented as usual, it shouldn't be be very large.
Keep in mind that the emulator is much slower than real devices, especially when you are debugging; these elaboration times could easily boil down to 1-2 seconds on a real device. However, this is just an estimate, you should make a test on a real device in order to be sure that your task is feasible with Androjena; if you don't have access to a real device, and you can/want to send us the full ontology (or an equivalent one), we can test it locally both on the emulator and on a real device, and tell you the results.

Regards,
Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo,

I tested my application with two devices:
- Samsung Galaxy (Android 1.6) and the loading time of the ontology is
about 15 seconds;
- With the Nexus S the result is about 3 seconds.
But I am not satisfied with the result obtained with Samsung Galaxy,
because I want something that is more efficient and that works for
earlier versions of Android.

Regards,
Idriss

Hi anteneh,
I need more details in order to debug this. Please open a new issue here and provide the required details, then we'll see what went wrong in your case.
Bye!
