Hi fellows!

DS 1.80 is not working on my SAMSUNG TAB 4 SM-T230NU (WiFi version) running Android 4.4.4.
DS starts, shows expected screen (programs dir) and terminates without any comment some seconds later.

Please, see this information as not being an urgent request. I changed back to Version 1.76 as with DS 1.79a3, which has been especially corrected to run with old Android 4, the BluetoothLE plugin is not working (see https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/androidscript/7YK0tAllZUo). I think it is not possible to support such old systems with ongoing development over the years. DS 1.76 is sufficient for my needs.

@Jo, 1.80 is designed to work with KitKat

Did you install the official version from Google Play or a direct download from DroidScript.org, or have you got it from another source?

I am using APKpure to install my programs, but that should be identical to GooglePlay store, I think.

I suggest you go to http://androidscript.org/apk/DroidScript_180/ and download DroidScript_180.apk from there to see if that shows the same problem when you install it.

I downloaded from androidscript.org, installed, showed the same - comes up and terminates within a few seconds without any message.
Are there log files to be inspected for the reason of that?

I see the identical effect on my other Kitkat devices, DS 1.76 is running without problems:
Samsung devices Galaxy Tab3 SM-T210 running Android 4.4.2 and Samsung GTS-7390 with Android 4.1.2

I can only replicate this problem by modifyinging the app after download.

Is either of you running software that modifies apps?

Nope

@Tempel anneke
Can you confirm that you get no message when DroidScript shuts down and that it happens within a few seconds of startup?

What make & model is your device?
What versions of Android is it running?

Does it make a difference if you clear DroidScript data?

Settings -> Apps & notifications -> App info -> DroidScript -> Storage -> "clear data"

Well,
I do hope NOT to have anything running that modifies apps after download!
This effect of 'short death' I see on 3 differently installed and versioned KITKAT Androids as told.
What could make a difference to your installations might be the local setting, my androids work with German locals.
All 3 devices have rather low memory, 463 MB, 832 MB and 1.3 GB.
(DS 1.76 is running on any of them without problems)

Any other ideas what could be different the test systems of yours?

I'm using kitkat as well,If you have a kitkat machine like us then try running it with debugging on maybe you'll find the bugs

@Steve ("I can only replicate this problem by modifyinging the app after download."):
What kind of modification do you perform to simulate the behaviour?

If it's a resource issue with storage, I would expect expect to see similar behaviour with 1.78

Have either of you used 1.78 or did you both update from 1.76?

@Jo
I see the issue with almost any modification. Obviously DroidScript.org don't support modified versions of their software.
But if you are not patching the app, that's clearly not the problem.

I've been using version 1.76 and still have using it because of the problem

1.78 did not work for me (reported error, which was patched in 1.79a3/a4, but had further problems with plugins, so got back to 1.76).
I'm using DS as it is, no patching.
Perhaps there are not so much people using DS for KITKAT either.

Hi Steve,
I produced some log files to show working ds 1.76 and crashing 1.80 comparable as well as installation run of 1.80.
Perhaps that could help or at least give any hint to where the problem is situated.
