HI,

The Sample for Animate has types that I don't see in the docs
"NewsPaper","Jelly", "Flash","RubberBand","TaDa", "Fall","FallRotate",

Some of the types are duplicated in the Sample
"SlideFromLeft","SlideFromTop","SlideFromRight","SlideFromBottom","SlideToLeft","SlideToTop","SlideToRight","SlideToBottom",
"ScaleFromLeft","ScaleFromTop","ScaleFromRight","ScaleFromBottom","ScaleToLeft","ScaleToTop","ScaleToRight","ScaleToBottom",

Some of the types (e.g. FadeIn, FadeOut) clearly animate, but some don't do much
(I suspect that for some of them the control has to be hidden by Animation 
before it can be shown by Animation).

You may be right but I am not aware of any that need to be be hidden by Animation
before they can be shown by Animation . I would be interested if you could point to a specific example

There are certainly some that need to be hidden if any effect is to be noticeable

HI,
I slowed it down to 5000 milliseconds to see the animations
FadeIn/Out ScaleFromLeft/Top/Right/Bottom seem to always animate.
Some are almost instantaneous so it's hard to see the animation.
In an app you'd frequently use one zoom to show the field and and later one to hide it
Some will hide the layout if it's visible (FlipTos, ZoomOuts)
Some will show the layout if it's not visible (FlipFroms, ZoomIns)

I was aware of all those behaviours. I thought you were saying some would only showing if they had been hidden using Animate

I tend to fight the behaviour of FadeIn/Out ScaleFromLeft/Top/Right/Bottom by checking if they are Visible before deciding whether to Animate them

HI,
Fade and ScaleFrom take about 5 seconds.
I had Android Developer Options animation set to 0, 
so the other animations were instantaneous
(so all I saw was the final "frame").
Setting to 1 makes them animate correctly 
(I guess Fade and Scale ignore the setting, probably outside DS's control).
