Dave Smart published and alpha version of MQTT plugin http://androidscript.org/alpha/MQTT_Plugin_a1.

Does this work as a background service?. If not, maybe its time to consider using Apache Paho Service. Dont know if DS need recompile for that, as it is using special flag for keeping the service awake when phone is turn off

It should work in a DroidScript background service as far as I know. I've not tested though.

Note this is the client side only. You will need to use a MQTT broker server at the other end. You can use one of the free online ones or setup your own.
