Hello support team!
Just after updating DS 2.02 to 2.06 on an "old" Samsung Note3 neo SM-N7505 using Android version 5.1.1. it is not possible to start any program by WiFi-connected IDE (Firefox/Win10/PC), meaning that nothing happens when I push the start button. (Cleaned app cache, restarted smartphone, restarted browser, used Chrome browser ... No starting of any program)
On the other side, IDE shows dark theme and program runs well with debug messages shown as expected on an Acepad A130 tablet driven by Android version 9 using DS 2.06.

(Sorry for using such old devices, but why throw away still well functioning stuff? I know, I can use older versions of DS of course, but, therefore unfortunately have to disable automatic updates by google play. I'd like to know if this is some kind of collateral damage due to adaption of DS to newer Android versions, so I have to live with that, or some error that crept in unintendedly.)

Hi,
I'm not part of the official support team. MIght not be related to your problem.
I can't find it right now, but I recall a post that there's a problem using the WiFi IDE using link http://androidscript.org/ide/
The work-around was to type the IP address straight into the browser address bar.
Regards, ah

to Alan: Thanks for the info, but I am not using the online IDE at android.org, but, my PC to connect via WiFi.

By the way: I switched back to DS 1.8, works without the descripted problem.

Unfortunately, I do need functions that are available only by DS 2.xx, so I had to update to the current available DS version on Google Play. Sorry for complaining again:
Using DS 2.06 with Android 5.1.1 on a 'Samsung Galaxy Note3 Neo' I am not able to perform essential actions at the local WiFi IDE on my Windows-PC (Chrome or Firefox):
I can connect, do editing, but:
  • cannot perform search/replace-actions using Ctrl-F, so editing is complicated (I must copy the file's contents to another editor for replacements and back). The search buttons above the editor window are working, so simple searches for highlighted words are possible.
  • using the run-button, the edited changes are saved, but no further action is shown (the program does not run, the IP-addres of my IDE-PC is shown. Pressing the stop rectangle gives me a "connection lost" by the IDE surface though Android shows the IP address of the PC and working by IDE is furthermore possible. To make my app run, I have to disconnect on the phone and start the program there - that works for me).
There might be other issues I did not discover yet. Right window seems to have no problems: Home/Docs/Samples selection are working. Editor: NewFile/Save/Undo/Redo - buttons are working. I can create a new app, but, even in the simple preset version remotely unstartable.

(Debugging already has been unavailable before whenever I make apps with multi files, so I do not miss that. Setting Debug on or off has no influence on that.)

Regards
Jo

Hi,
Until the technical team fix you could try going back to a different 2.xx version.
2.00b1  2.00b2  2.03b1  2.04b1  2.05b1
(You probably need to go back to older APKBuider as well).

This may be an Android version issue (5.1.1 is very old now).

Try these things:-

1. Try to upgrade your Android webview using Google Play.

2. Try to connect to your hotspot directly or use another phone as a router (to check your home router is not causing the problems)

@Dave:

I am sorry that I am preferring old systems, but, all these old smartphones are doing very well as such. Wy do we always throw away things that are doing their job? Of course, systems might evolve, better usability, new skins whatsoever ...
For a developer its hard to span the evolving Android systems, I know that, so I am not expecting to get full support.
Thank you for your answer, anyway; to your points:

The webview on my A 5.1.1 had been last updated on 8th of March 21 when I stumbled upon this issue. On Playstore, there is a lot of complains about the usability after webview updates, so I did a reset to factory basic and gave it a try, but the reaction is identical (no app start).

As it is not possible to use the hotspot of the A 5.1.1 system for DS ( DS does not recognize the hotspot as a WiFi substitute ) I used a 3rd hotspotted smartphone as replacement for the router. The result using the 192.168.43.... hotspot WiFi is exactly identical.

Well. I can live with that, no reason to try the other 2.xx versions, but, perhaps you can look for possible reasons when updating to the next version.

Regards
Jo
