Dear all,

I need a 100% fully working instruction of installing Andoidx86 Nugat on a single boot partition. I do not want to have dual boot using windows.
All guide line found are refering to dual boot.

What I usually do is as follow :

- Create a bootable USB with Androidx86 nugat iso
- Clear all partition on my hard disk
- Create 16GB partition and 512 partition on my hard disk using bootable linux GPART tool
- Restart my PC and boot from my USB
- Select install from hdd
- select first partition ( without format )
- install YES to grub on 512 partition

Then restart my PC by removing my boot USB and select install android to HDD from GRUB boont menu and repeat step above

The issue I get is that with that installation process, when complete and reboot my PC without USB, it cannot boot

Based on that, is there a clear working instruction step with screen shot to get a working installation ?

Thanks for help

regards
serge

I'm not sure if you are experiencing same problems that I had with my installation, but when I was creating the partition with the installer, it asked if I wanted to use GPT, I answered yes, and could not get my old machine to boot. I Only got the text "tGRUB" on the screen.

I had to fix this By using Gparted from live rescuedisc and removed the partition and then created new MS-DOS partition table to the hard drive, and after that I could install it so that it booted.

Somehow the x86 intaller gave error when I tried to use the partition tool without GPT (answering "no" to the first question) after I used it once with GPT.

Ps. I did not create any extra partitions in Gparted. I created only one partition spanning the whole disk and it worked.

Thanks for you reply.

So if I understand wel what you are saying, you said you use a live boot USB to run live Gpart and delete all existing partition. Then create a new partition.

Which partition type to you select from Gpart tool ? Fat32, ntfs, nt4 ?

Did you format the partition from Gpart tool or from Android nugat installer ?

Regards

If I remember correctly I formatted the partition in Gparted, after I created the MS-DOS partition table. I used ext4 partition type. After that I haven't had to use the partition tool in the installer.

Hello,

I have create a single partition of the whole hard disk formatted as ext4.
Then I boot on my USB disk to install android. All went through but the problem is that, If I remove the USB key after installation and reboot, I get error message that it cannot find boot device.

I can only run android with the UDB key inserted. Sounds like the installation has been done on the key, or the boot stuff is on the key

Any idea how to solve ?

regards
serge

Sounds like grub is on the USB drive. You could try a boot repair tool such as https://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair-cd/home/Home/

Serge, did you answer "yes" this time, when the installer asked about installing Grub? And also if you are using 64bit iso, have you tried the 32bit version?

Hello Kossuth,

When I reboot I have Grub menu in black and white and then again install to HD option, so I selected yes and continue the installation. Then when it ask to install EFI grub 2, I answer skip.
What is happening now is that when I remove the USB key, and reboot, I get Android Logo screen and it stays there for ever.

Any idea ?

By the way what could be difference betwwen 64 and 32 bit version ?

I have only experience with 32bit version, even though my system is 64bit, it is too old to boot the 64bit image. Have you tried to boot the 32bit version. That could make the difference.

Asking stupid question again, but did the 32bit image boot to homescreen from the usb stick? Have you tried running the hdd installed version with debug on (chosen from the grub menu). If you try the debug, it pauses couple of times during boot, to console, and you have to write exit and press enter to get the boot move forwards. It might give some hint, to know what lines the debug has printed to screen when it hangs. What is the hardware you are trying to install the system?

Hello Kossuth,

"Asking stupid question again, but did the 32bit image boot to homescreen from the usb stick?"

How can it boot from USB stick as when I install android I ask it to install on hard disk ?

If I reboot from USB stick it will prompt me again to install or run from live ?

Can you clarify what you want me to do ?

I am running it on an INTEL NUC

When you for the first time plug in the bootable USB stick, you get the menu where you can choose to run Live from USB, or to install it to the harddisk. I meant, that you don't install it to the hard disk, and run Live from USB. If that gets you to the homescreen normally, we can be sure that most of your hardware is compatible.

If you choose to install it to the harddisk, and then start it with debug option chosen from the grub menu (black and white menu, with four option, first one is the normal boot, then debug, then if I remember correctly nomodeset (does not use hires during boot) and then lvds:1 (disables extra displays maybe)).

You could try to boot with the debug or nomodeset or the last option and see if you can get to homescreen or see where in the process it hangs.
