I have tried to install it via my 8GB USB stick.

I have disabled secure boot in the BIOS.

The USB stick boots up and I get the menu of running it live, DEBUG mode or Installation. The problem is when I choose any of the options, it just comes up with a black screen with a locked curser in the upper left corner of the screen.

I don't get any farther. I have checked and I believe the HP Envy X2 has been tested to work. Any ideas on what I can do? I am trying to use the 4.4-r2 image that I put on the USB stick.

If you need more information, please just let me know.

After doing some more research, I have found that indeed the HP Envy X2 is not compatible with Android-x86. I misread the spreadsheet of supported devices.  I guess it requires PowerVR GPU support, which is not available in Android-x86 or Android-IA. Dang! Back to trying the emulation route.

Thanks all ...
