You don't need a hard drive to boot from the USB key but you do need to install androidx86 to another drive or another usb key to save any data between sessions.

Hello,

I have searched but did not find the answer to my below questions.
If they exist please excuse me and let me know where I can find the answers. Thanks.

I am a newbie with Android : this is the first time I run this nice OS.

I have installed the image named
android-x86-4.0-RC2-eeepc.iso on an Asus EEE 1001 HA. The idea of providing an image which works on a Windows machine is a great idea ! Thanks a lot to the developers for this nice job. The PC does not own any HDD anymore : the Seagate 2,5" disk is broken so I removed it.
I have installed the Android image on a USB key. It works fine with a few issues that I would like to mention in order to may be get some help.
First I am unable to use correctly the keyboard. It is a swiss keyboard but there are several issues with the placement of the characters on the keyboard. For instance y and z have exchanged their place and it is impossible to use any accentuated character.
Second issue : I have not been able to open any AVI video. I have tried the Galerie application which is integrated into the Android image. But I had to cancel it after 90 mn : it was still trying to load the video... VLC works fine but only during one session (see below).
Third issue : I wonder if its possible to write anything on this USB key-only Android. I have downloaded some applications but they don't appear anymore in the next session : I must download again the application. Also, I must enter the WiFi passcode everytime I start a new session. Nothing has been saved on the key.
Isn't there an option that would permit to add some application to the contents of the key and which would permit to save the WiFi parameters ? If not then this means that I will have to replace the disk and install Android on it...

Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Merci gadgetgaz, c'est ce que je soupçonnais.
Puisque je ne peux sauvegarder aucune application sur une clé USB, je vais laisser tomber mon idée d'avoir Android sur une simple clé USB. Tant pis...
