hi guys,
I'm new to the group, and I wanted to share my experience and maybe
get more input.
I will try to make some sort of time line AND afer my solutions:
first the great things:
no matter if live or installed:
- grub navigation via the volume keys and windows key
- 4 point fluid multi-touch
- WiFi b/g/n and every encription
- usb support
- no matter if started with the dock keyboard ALWAYS has the
touchkeyboard (only with the dock keyboard the touch is disabled,
undock and you get the touch)
- great audio(some times funny noises)
- video playback no problem only with youtube HD didn't worked.
- 4 hours rough battery use.
- in a few words it gives the iconia a really tablet feeling and not
just a windows thing with touch support.
3 weeks ago:
1.- brazos iso mounted on usb
2.- live try on my iconia w500
It was perfect but some details not correctly working:
2.1 error with the video ROM
2.2 no bluetooth
2.2 no SD CARD
2.3 flicker in the upper region of the screen (NOT constantly)
2.4 no g-sensor
2 week ago:
1.- install with W7 working with grub
* Volume buttons and windows key provide navigation in Grub.
2.- same problems as before +:
2.1 didn't like that the installation did not reseized the partion
instead made an "android Folder" in C:/ everyhting works on different
*.img files.
2.2 if a big SD Card was inserted (32GB) didn't boot , was this a bios
problem or a Grub problem?
2.3 when the device went to "sleep" was ok, windows key flashes in
ambar color, but 8 seconds later it wakes up and it was "chrashed"
* by chrashed I mean that the time and lock ring where there but
nothing to do.
1 week ago:
I'm in love with this so i reinstalled windows and with help of
gparted, reisezed the partition and made 5GB space for android.
1.- reinstallion of android and Grub, made an ext3 partion with the
free space and emulated an 2.0 GB SD Card.
problems: same problems.
SOLUTIONS:
video ROM:
With the dock -keyboard press "e" to edit the grub and add the
following:
before the "quiet" statement insert: pci=nocrs .
this remove the colision-rom-problem but in the user experience has no
great advantages.
To do: insert this option definitly but I haven't been able to find
the menu.lst and figure out what this "error" means.
bluetooth:
haven't try anything because it's not so important to me.
SD Card:
sniffing around I believe the actual hardware isn't being recognized
by android so, my skills dont go that far to mess with the kernel and
stuff
flicker:
you can live with it. last less than 1 second and comes every minute.
no g-sensor:
same thing as the SD card, its a bit sad because it would be nice
having it.
* in the screen title of settings play with the options so that
everytime you exit an vertical-app it auto switches back to horizontal
view.
Big SD card inserted:
- I beleive its a grub problem(version) because before grub 0.97
everything was fine. and also I tried ubuntu+w7 and the 32 Gb SD
worked.
SLEEP MODE:
This is my biggest problem, I hate that it only remains a few seconds
in sleep mode and then it wakes up with the crash.
WHAT I do: one click in the power button and the crash is gone.
the power button gives me only the option to turn of the device I am
looking to modify something so that the power button alows me to put
the tablet to sleep, like an iPad.
IF SOMEONE HAS AN ANSWER SPECIALLY about THIS ISSUE PLEASE POST IT.
I have tried sleep apps, screen lock apps, but still the *** keeps
waking up.
EXTRA MODS:
in another thread I found that people are using a special "touch-
driver" I installed that but the touch still works perfect > no
difference.
soon I will post my references.
