Build Android Kitkat 4.4 for ViewPad 10

Hi,

I am not a programmer.

Can anyone guide me on how to build Android KitKat 4.4 for ViewSonic ViewPad 10, please?

Intel Oak Trail devices like the ViewPad 10 are not compatible with Android KitKat. There are several driver-level incompatibilities that date back to pre-JellyBean.

have used it for debugging issues....

think it was Al Sutton who did the original port for android-x86.....

so for the OP....just use any of the released versions of android-x86 starting with gingerbread....

OakTrail crashed the last time I ran it on KK with Android-x86.org, but hey, great to hear it works! Sorry if I was mistaken… that was my experience. I hadn’t heard Z670 stable on KK as the GPU was slogging last I heard.

Asking me to “stop” spreading “BS” is un-called for. It infers that’s a track record, which is patently offensive. I was just sharing my experience and what was relayed to me.

at least do some work...the Vpad10 doesn't use a Z670 so why are you even answering the question?????

Some ship with an N455 and some ship with a Z670. Sheesh. I personally tested on an Oak Trail and got nothing but GPU sheering. Your mileage will vary.

Personally I recommend Android-x86.org 4.0 and 4.1 for that era of machine. Android-IA 4.1.2 if it works, but Android-x86.org tends to fare better on machines of that vintage.

You really need to bury this grudge you have against me, dscm. I don’t understand why you have it. I’m fighting to keep Android from becoming a totally walled garden… even if you disagree, it’s no reason to be so hostile.

android-x86 gets out of your way so you can be successful....

It’s branded differently in different regions, actually. I can show you Z670 marketing docs for the vpad10/10pro. But, it’s a difference without a distinction, too… it’s the same GPU from the same vendor on the same platform.

I stand by that you’re best off avoiding KitKat. 4.0 and 4.1 are the sweet spot. If you got KK to work, great. 

I encourage everyone to test each .iso build of android-x86.org with their device. But, personally, I think 4.0/4.1 is the most stable, most functional, and best way to go. Which, is what users typically want when asking such a question - and again, my tests of KK with OakTrail all failed. It could be as simple as a BIOS difference.

Again, burn each .iso for each version and test with your hardware. You can always get lucky and everything comes to life.

You do realize the hardware support for each platform is remarkably different, right? Very few devices even overlap between Console OS and Android-x86.org. 

We even put in our FAQ that Android-x86.org is a great solution, because we can’t support most pre-Win7 devices anyways with Console OS from an architectural standpoint. We’ve committed to sharing code upstream with AOSP that will benefit Android-x86.org.

This notion that there’s antagonism there, simply is of your own accord.

Any time anyone uses Android on x86, it helps the cause. That’s why I’m on here, and more people from the team will be soon.

My apologies. You are correct. It’s been a long day. As I said, the feedback was not from my own testing of the Viewpad 10, but in the past I’ve found KK to not work well with any Atom XXX on KK regardless of NM10 or the PowerVR in software mode.

Bottom line, burn each version of android-x86 .iso and test yourself in live mode. That’s the advice I should have given, and I should have seen through the some of the verbal attacks to just have corrected myself on that note from the outset.

If people want to set up a new compatibility list, I’ll be happy to fund the effort. There was a Google Docs that crashed, and that was disappointing. There should be a better master list.
