I think I'm down to my last issue with Android 7.1 on my tablet. Like many before me, I too am having problem with the device not switching to headphone when it is plugged into the 3.5mm jack. From what I understand, this doesn't really work anyway. I have tested manually switching using alsa cset commands in terminal but I'm looking for an easier solution than running bash scripts to enable and disable audio channels. One of the post suggested Tasker but not sure which app the author was referring to.

Thanks

I use a tool called SoundAbout, available on the Play Store:

I use Android x86-64 7.1 R2 on an old Optiplex 390, and noticed Android would always want to output audio through the HDMI interface even though analog speakers or headphones were present.  This little app lets you force the machine to route the audio through the interface of your choice.  It's worked great for me.  Try and see if it helps you!

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't work with my particular device. Forcing it to headset, headset with mic, or earpiece, all pump out the audio from the speaker.

Thanks for the link. I started watching the tutorial on YouTube and for $4 I think I'll give it a shot. Is there a way to confirm a headset plugging event has happened?

I tried the command but got no text showing up so I assume it's not detecting it. I also tried to copy the exact commands in Tasker and it doesn't run automatically when the headset is plugged in. I tested the task by adding a pop up and the commands does work. Any suggestions?
