I installed Android-x86-RC1-eeepc.iso from the Android-x86 site and
installed it into a VirtualBox VM running in (K)Ubuntu Linux.

During installation I formatted a 4 Gb virtual drive (in VirtualBox)
and installed Android-x86 into that, creating a 2 Gb virtual SDcard
image (which the Android-x86 installer does automatically).

In VirtualBox I bridged the NAT network connection (Adapter type:
PCnet-Fast III) to the host PC's wired Ethernet.

In Android-x86 I enabled a wired Ethernet connection with

netcfg eth0 dhcp
setprop net.dns1 192.168.0.1

and can successfully surf the web using the Android browser.

The Android system runs fine, and using Open Manager I can browse the
Android folders and the virtual SDCard folders as well.

In the Android Settings the Storage menu shows 2 Gb storage available,
and the USB storage ("Mount SDCard") option is greyed out.

I can not download files, however. Every time I click on something to
download, nothing happens. I have tried downloading from multiple
different sources from the browser. The download attempts merely stay
listed in the Download queue forever...

I cannot figure out how to get any files onto the virtual Android
Device at all...

Any ideas?

That's strange! I download all the things from Play Store and some from others as well. Which version of Android are you using? Android 4.0 and 3 have no support for Ethernet.

Of course you can't, it's because the DownloadProvider is not aware
that Ethernet is a connectivity method.
It's been resolved in my previous patch set for ICS 4.0.1, and if you
*build* your own version I can post an updated ethernet patch for
4.0.4 (IMM76)

Is there any way to force all g-apps use eth0?

Hello, easy job to answer by yourself, check the following out:

1. Processor, chipset, graphics, ethernet, audio, wlan, ... type of your system
2. Processor, chipset, graphics, ethernet, audio, wlan, ... type of the systems the isos are offered for

3. compare and find the most matching.

Example: You have an Atom processor based netbook -> Try EEEPC iso.
Example: You have a notebook with AMD C60 -> Try AMD Brazos iso
Example: You have a Pentium III system -> Try generic or Stefan Seidel's Thinkpad iso.
etc.

Hi Ron,

Can you post that ethernet patch? I am building my own version so I can't use others' iso image.

Thanks!
