I have an ASUS EEEpc T91MT on which I am currently running windows 7.
When I install android (2.2 or even the latest nightly build) onto the
device the touch screen does not work at all, there is no response.
Unfortunately I do not have the capacity to compile my own iso using
possible solutions for this problem because the T91MT is my only
computer. I read several other discussions of this issue but there
didn't seem to be a solid solution.

Did you tried Android-x86 1.6? Is it working there?

It doesn't work on the 1.6 build, perhaps there is something missing
from the nightly builds of 2.2? I was able to compile it with the
necessary changes to the mosart driver.

I just checked the 2.2 eeepc nightlies, they don't include the mosart
kernel driver. Can someone fix this?

jtjs, so does the touch screen work with the mosart driver?

It does, but it has to be patched first as the mosart driver in the
kernel is broken, I linked to the patches in this thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-x86/browse_thread/thread/c1e0d17cb549f38d/f4b3d36a237f66bb?lnk=gst&q=t101mt#f4b3d36a237f66bb

Would you please share the compiled iso image that works on T91MT?
I have no experience in building it from sources and awaiting some
problems if I try :)

There is a glitch to be aware of, the gui stops responding to the
touch screen when it comes back from sleep, but that appears to be a
glitch with android x86 itself rather than the screen(I can still run
ts_calibrate successfully.

I don't have anywhere to upload the image I created though... The
patches for the mosart driver came from one of the developers who
worked on the driver, I don't really see why they couldn't be
incorporated into the source and thus into the nightlies..

The only other things needed are to add the driver to the eeepc build
target and have it load it on startup.

Indeed there are a lot of discussion of T91MT/T101MT
and someone provided patches.
I think I've integrated most patches I saw
into the source tree.
Someone said it works, but someone said it doesn't.
I completely lost.

Please state it clearly which parts are
still not patched correctly.

Hi Chih-Wei,

I am syncing to the repo again and I will advise what patches are
needed, if any. The only thing that is certain is that the nightlies
for eeepc don't include the hid-mosart kernel driver.

The iso's are too big for email.

Anyways, I have a thought. In the t101mt thread, kinneko reported that
the snapshot on Jan 17 worked on their t91mt. So why not give that iso
a try? http://android-x86.moonman.dk/files/old/eeepc_old/eeepc-20110117.iso
you can find other old nightlies here:

Oh, I recall one thing.
Since one of the patches are in the kernel tree. However,
the build system will not update kernel and modules
if kernel source changed only -- you have to update
the config to rebuild the kernel.
(yep, this is a known bug)

Mushishi, do your nightly server make a clean build
every day? If not, there is a chance the kernel
is not updated to get the T91MT patch.

Would you please do a clean build?
(rm -rf out; then make again)

On a side note, touching the appropriate defconfig file (for example:  touch device/asus/eeepc/eeepc_defconfig) will also trigger the remake of the patched/modified files in the kernel tree without completely rebuilding it.

I've just tried eeepc-20110117.iso, as well as the snapshots for Jan
16 and Jan 18 - the touch screen doesn't work.
You can use for example dropbox.com service to share the iso, and I'm
still going to say thank you if you do this :)

I just synced to the froyo-2.2 branch last night and built a new iso(I
had previously been using a build that I patched myself, so I wasn't
about to share that, no good for testing, and somewhat outdated). I am
uploading it to a dropbox account right now. It will take a while to
upload as the iso is 251mb.. I suppose I'm missing some tools to
shrink it down...

I suggest you disable the screen timeout, as the touchscreen stops
working on resume. also, there isn't a proper driver for the gma500
graphics chip in the t91mt.

Thanks! but this version doesn't boot at all :)
it sais "Detecting... found at... A N D R O I D"
and that's all. No way further.
I used unetbootin tool to make a bootable USB flash, if this matters.

Hi Chih-Wei,

It works here at least. No patches are needed. Although the touch
screen does stop functioning after the device sleeps, after which it
only works with the track pad.

dmitry: try formating the usb stick before using unetbootin... and
sometimes it takes a while for it to go past that screen when booting
from usb.

What version do you use that has a working touch screen? Wifi worked for me with the latest snapshot. As for blury image, did you try VESA mode?

Another reccomendation, go into settings, display, and change the
display timeout to never. Since the touchscreen doesn't work after
resume, this seems to be the best option.

Yeah I have done this but could anyone clarify on the T91MT how the
sleep and wake up controls are used, ie is it just the regular power
switch just below the screen to do this? And does this mean that
every time you want to put it to sleep/standby that a reboot is needed
in order to use it again next time?

I found a couple of things that there may be ways to work around but I
don't know the answer - if someone could answer this I'd be very
pleased!

1) When I use my T91MT in Tablet mode with the screen folded on top of
the keyboard, how to I use any control as 'Back' button or even
'Home'? The only hard key on the screen is the rotate button and
power switch, so can the rotate button be used somehow as a multi
function? Ie short press = Back, long press = Home, or something like
that? Sorry if this already exists!!

2) Again, in Tablet mode, how to I get a touchscreen keyboard for
entering text in fields on the screen? Eg on my HD2, when you touch a
text field on screen a soft keyboard appears but not on this android
version. How can I get this to work? I've tried adjusting the text
entry/keyboard settings etc but I can't make this happen.
It's difficult because I want to use it in Tablet mode usually but
cannot if I have to open it back up each time I have to type
something.

Sorry if the answers are already out there!

1) press the top right corner of the screen. after that you should get
a notice about some special controls, swipe left across the top bar to
go back, or just touch it to get the home button

2) by default the keyboard settings seem to be wrong on current
builds, in the settings you need to uncheck the disable soft keyboard
option. Then it will work.

For 2) go to: Settings->Language & keyboard->Device keyboard
Make sure the option to disable softkeyboard is unchecked.

Good!!
Just have some questions, really need to use this with android 100%
because definitively in win7 is extremely slow and useless. Sorry if
questions are already answered but I could not find them.
- In tablet or normal mode how can I rotate the screen?
- camera app does not work (it says SORRY, the application camera
(process.com.android.camera) has stopped unexpectedely. How to
activate rotate screen
- I am using a 5gb ntfs partition in my 32gb asus t91mt ssd drive and
I installed android there, but when start the machine GRUB does not
show the VESA option just the other 2 and the debug one
- This android screen in asus t91mt definitively sucks, any tip for
making look better will be appreciated
thx J

PD
any suggestion for a good linux distribution for the t91mt?

That's brilliant - well thought out by whoever added that extra menu
in - thankyou!
I did actually find this info when I googled this morning about x86
back button, and was going to update my post on here but I can't
access earlier on.

I don't know how I missed the keyboard thing as I did look in there -
how stupid of me! What is odd in the keyboard settings is a couple of
menu items that appear to be written in Chinese or something similar,
so I have no idea what they are for (it's not in the languages
menu)...

So apart from the proper sleep/resume functionality I think it's
working fairly well now. I get the same problem with the camera
crashing when you open it (although it does display correctly for a
few moments first) but I can live with that as I rarely use it.

One thing that surprises me is that it all runs a little bit slow
considering that I'd guess it shouldn't use that much resource to run,
but I'm sure there are tweeks to enhance the speed on this device, or
to optimise the graphics so it's smoother/quicker to scroll and things
like that.

I'm not going to ask about that performance stuff until I have
actually searched for info on things like that though because I
haven't yet!
The size of the icons/text etc seems way too large as well but I
presume that can all be adjusted one way or another so again, I'll do
some searching to find out.

But it's nearly there anyway - I'm impressed! Keep up the good
work. :)

Great! I finally managed to get my t91mt's touch screen work with the
nightly build for Jan13.
BTW, there are no updates on http://android-x86.moonman.dk since that
build, anybody knows why?

My question now is is it somehow possible to set the native screen
resolution 1024x600 ?
As far as I understand none of three standard boot options set this
resolution.

The calibration is off just enough on my screen that I can't get to
the upper right of the screen. The input seems to be off down and to
the left. Is there a calibration tool available somewhere? Right now I
am stuck with having to use the keyboard for everything. Even
navigating by touch is very iffy, because I try to compensate but am
often a little off - frustrating.
