iso built from source: android_x86_64.iso

iso download-able from project: android-x86_64-8.1-rc1.iso

The public iso android-x86_64-8.1-rc1.iso has the minimal gapps i.e., Chrome, Gmail, etc.; the equivalent of opengapps micro...installed

But the built-from-source image android_x86_64.iso does not.

Custom build with google apps...

I don't think the above steps will work with the current build from source??

Are there any instructions to include these Gapps or apks to the build from source to make these packages available

I followed these instructions to include Open Gapps during compile for 7.1 and 8.1.

Setup wizard would keep crashing on me on 8.1 so I went and downgrade to 7.1 but it didn't resolve the problem. With 7.1, I tried deleting Setup from priv-app folder and it would let me get into the Home screen but Settings acts funny. I resolved that by including AndroidPlatformService during build. However, I still get Google Play Service has stopped message all the time when I go install things from the Play Store. It wouldn't stop me from installing and using Apps so it's more an annoyance.

as a quick test:
using the built image with kernel 4.14 and replacing the system directory by cp -ar the system  of the prebuilt iso provides the play services but installed apps crash
i haven't tested the prebuilt iso to see if it actaully works because it uses kernel 4.9 and won't work with my hardware

anyone on the dev team care to chime in on including gapps;

This one worked for me both nougat and oreo (https://github.com/opengapps/aosp_build) using intel gpu.
Nougat - Playstore works fine with either my intel gpu or nvidia gpu.
Oreo - Playstore works fine with my intel gpu but keeps crashing with my nvidia gpu when searching apps. My workaround is to search an app from Chrome, open it with playstore then install.

search an app from Chrome, open it with playstore then install.

same difference

acc to opengapps Phonesky is available only for  arm arch; Leanback needs to be substituted, Phonesky excluded as per the more recent release notes

when i get time i'll test the pre-built android-x86 iso which has Google Play Store and supporting packages installed

You can include Gapps in your build by using the OpenGapps build script.

Yes I did that, it worked...there was a topic in Issues spec regarding androidx86 but I built with Pico anyway  so I guess it was resolved
