With the release of WSL-Launcher from Microsoft, it is possible to build custom linux distributions that can be manually side-loaded to windows.  Has anyone tried building Android-X86 or CM14 for this purpose yet?

This is the link to WSL-Launcher:
https://github.com/Microsoft/WSL-DistroLauncher

The readme states that the distro needs to be named distro.tar.gz but I'm uncertain how to compile Android-X86 to that format.

From this article:
https://github.com/Microsoft/WSL/issues/2618
It seems to indicate that the distro should be a rootfs tarball

Ubuntu on WSL runs very smoothly, even with the desktop running through XMING.  There is currently no Android emulator that runs this smoothly on my Surface Pro 2 so I think there is value in getting Android running under WSL.  Unfortunately, I don't understand Linux enough to know how to make this happen.

I read the doc of Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

https://docs.microsoft.com/zh-tw/windows/wsl/about

It seems only possible to run command line tools.
I don't see how it is possible to run Android-x86.

WSL ain't mature enough for custom-crafted Linuxes like Android.

I see...  thanks for the reply.

As far as UI goes, it is possible to use X11 along with XMing to display xfce4, unity, etc. in WSL but I guess I have never seen any instances of Android UI being forwarded through X11.  Android UI shown through VNC was the only thing I've actually seen done.
