There are several images available at  http://www.android-x86.org/  which are designed to be run on laptops. While they are built specifically for ASUS and a few other manufacturers/models/platforms, they have fair compatibility with other systems out of the box.

Now please don't be upset or distraught about the question. I just wanna get a little help about this.

I'm planning to buy an Android-type device in the near future, and I want to get used to the functions prior to that. As such, I grabbed VirtualBox, and am wanting to try Android on my computer. This has come up... with very little success.

I don't have any type of touchscreen device aside from my crappy BREW phone, so the issue I'm left with is trying to find a build that functions on standard USB mouse input, rather than touchscreen. I've heard of certain EXTMOD= params that supposedly make it work, but no avail for me. I'm not well trained on Linux, so this isn't exactly something I can figure out myself.

I want to see what can be done before I have to resort to figuring out how to assemble a build from scratch. Are there any builds that are made with desktops in mind, or extra variables to input to the bootline? Also, could it have to do with LiveCD? I'm not bothering to install it on my VBox, and I don't exactly plan to install it on real hardware, I'd just like to be able to use it, get the feel before I buy a device.

the most compatible build for Intel based is eeepc build, you could
get the latest ISO from tabletsx86.org, it already had patched
ethernet

Does the VirtualBox emulate Intel hardware, or does it hook into your
main hardware, because if it hooks, then I'm on AMD64.

Also, please be aware that my issue is that it wouldn't hook the
mouse. I'll best update the top post with my rig.

Please specify your hardware.
I posted a couple of images I built that ran well on a variety of dell desktops. You can search the group for some of my posts.

I can't seem to edit my post, so I'll just note the rig here.

HP Pavilion p6516f Desktop Tower
AMD Athlon II 630 X4 2.8GHz
6GB DDR3 RAM (3x2GB)
Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200
PCI-e x16 2.0 GIGABYTE Radeon HD 6670 (1.1 bus)
Realtek Integrated Audio Card
Western-Digital Caviar 1TB Solid State Drive
iMicro USB Keyboard
Microsoft Laser Mouse
HS-RS880-uATX (Aloe) Mobo
Windows 7 Professional x64

If any of this can help, I'd appreciate it. Please don't forget, I
wish merely to run it through VirtualBox. I am NOT installing or
running it directly on the hardware.

I see. If you wish to run with box you should be fine with the images at tabletsx86  site.
Search for an Ethernet enabled one (I posted a link to such an ISO myself at the past if you want to concentrate on a specific image.)

You can also try Dan Faiges images
