Hello everyone.

Installing Android-x86 on an eMMC causes grub to display an error during boot.

Error: Malformed file.
Press any key to continue...

Boot process automatically continues after a few seconds without pressing a key.

Installing on an SSD instead of the eMMC doesn’t cause this problem.

As the system continues to boot even with this error, the problem can be ignored but it is an indicator that there is something wrong.

This seams to be a known grub2 bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1311247

So updating to the latest grup2 version should fix this problem.

I also encountered this error, and just like you, my machine went on booting few seconds later. 7.1 rc2 didn't have this problem. My system has normal HDD, as it is old Fujitsu Lifebook laptop.

Yes, I can also confirm version 7.1 rc2 didn't had this problem.

Thank you for pointing it out.
Will check how to do that.

As a workaround, you can just remove
/boot/grub/grubenv in the ESP.
