Folks-

I have a somewhat newbie question, so I appreciate your patience. I have installed ICS to an SD card on my T101MT. Before installing, I ran ICS live from the USB iso and it worked fine (wifi, etc). I'd like to be able to choose to boot into ICS on my SD card (preserving my HDD as Win7), but when I go into the BIOS to specify the boot order, the SD card is not an option. Only the HDD, removable device, and CD are options for boot. So my noob question is this: how to I get the SD card to show up as a bootable drive?

Thanks-

In my asus laptop, the sd card shows up as a hard disk. So set the
system to boot from HD, and change the HDs order so that the SD card
is higher than your HD. HD order and boot order are seperate options
in bios

Midhat-

thanks. By prioritizing the Card over the HDD I am able to boot ICS from the SD card. But now one other question: when the screen pops up to select which OS to boot (Android, Android debug, or Windows), when I select Windows it tells me that the disk is not found. So to boot Windows I have to go back into BIOS and change the HD order again so that it prioritizes the HDD. Is there some configuration I missed when installing to the SD which will allow Windows to boot from that screen?

Thanks-

I press F12 during boot to select the boot order each time on boot. One extra action but it works.

Or hit ESC during boot and select the drive you want (e.g. SD Card or Hard Drive) just for that boot.

Thanks Dru (and Mike). I'll just use the ESC method as it seems to work fine.

Problem solved.

I had this same issue at first. I just went in to the grub and edited it. You can also install the Grub on the Windows and link it to the sd car.
I have grub installed on my hard drive of my tablet. I have menu come up and it has the windows 8 and it has the 3 versions of Android I have running from a 32gb TF card.

Well you could remove the card until after POST. This way System will
see only 1 device on bootup. There is also a function key that lets
you choose the boot device during POST. I think its F4, but try all
the others if F4 doesnt work.

Yes, an SD Card will work just like a normal hard drive. Any changes you make or apps you install will be available each time you use it.

you can install on usb and keep the info because that is stored in data, I have a USB flash with my newest android mod and it keeps the downloaded stuff and edits.
You can edit grub when it boots in to grub, or either you can open up the menu.lst in windows/linux and edit the grub location. like if you get a boot error 17, then you can edit the grub

if you installed grub already on your sd, hd, or usb you just need to edit the grub already installed. No need to install it on your windows unless you want dual or more boots, with out going to bios or f12 every time.
http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub.html there is a basic grub tutorial and info.
